Re: Updating from GCOS 1.X to Cobra 2.1

Even if you could boot Cobra, the Viper itself will be disabled because of the flags in the flash header. This holds true for iplboot, but I'm not entirely sure about GCOS. If it doesn't disable the Viper, then it's possible to write our own flasher.

Re: Help to run burned games on my GameCube modded with Xeno

Interesting contraption. Yes, you can cut regular 12cm DVDs down to size, just make sure you cut them round and concentric or you could damage your spindle. You could also find an aftermarket top case that fits full size discs.

Re: Has anyone tried using a Wii Mini DVD Drive in a GameCube?

As long as it still has regular DVD support then Swiss can patch games to read burned media kind of like those inline Wii modchips did. The wasp probably even does that out of the box with "wkf on". Original discs should work in a GameCube out of the box if it's like the Wii family edition where it'...

The burner itself also matters. If he's using the same media as you are, then you might want to try using the same burner as his.

Re: Game Boy Interface

You can append the CLI to the DOL file with the following command (on Windows):

Code: Select all

copy /b gbi.dol+gbi.cli boot.dol
Then you can convert that into a GCI with dol2gci and install it.
CLI options are documented on the wiki.

Weird, there are no changes from 429 to 430 that should affect that.

Re: Custom QSB for Wasp/WKF with DVD drive

Knowledge about the WODE is a lot more scarce than WKF/WASP because it's much more expensive and hasn't been available for a while. For the lid, you just need to connect a switch between the two pads on the adapter board. You need pin 29 according to the wiring information in the wiki.

You can order the PCBs from oshpark, you will need to source the connectors and a voltage regulator separately.

By adapter board, do you mean those adapters that you plug a ribbon/FFC cable into and it has solder pads for all 32 pins?
Rather something like this.

Re: What to do with a new GameCube

For option 2: booting Swiss from a disc is much easier than getting backup discs to work reliably. The stutters aren't too bad even in Metroid. You will notice increased load times though, and you may run into breaking bugs with some games. For option 4: the wode is a good compromise between the com...

Still pretty far off, definitely no ETA yet. I currently have no plans for a portable version, you should consider building a portable Wii instead.

At this point it's safe to assume that the chip has a problem. Since you said you could return it, you should probably do that and look for another one.

Re: Viper GC

Looks like DA15 on your mainboard has been ripped off, though that shouldn't affect the chip. The wire harness solder joints don't look too great though so you might wanna try to fix that.

I'm pretty sure you do need to plug it into the serial port yes. No idea what the FFC is for. It won't hurt to try either way.

Re: Viper GC

The Qoob SX only supports flashing via software, and you should be able to update it just fine even after the initial flash. Btw, keep in mind that you can flash iplboot from DVD (or network?) to a Viper with Cobra on it. But if you don't have the programmer, you'll be stuck on that version forever.

Re: Viper GC

One question: When I have flashed IPLBoot is it then possible to flash the Cobra BIOS again without the USB programmer? I don't own one so I have to flash via DVD. In the current state of things: no. The iplboot image doesn't have the proper bits enabled to allow flashing a Viper from GC software. ...

Does the latter device disappear when you unplug the Viper flasher? Does the flashing utility work regardless of that driver missing? I can't really help you more than that since I don't have one, but that should put you on track. If you still can't get it working, I'd recommend using an old XP mach...

Re: DVD Drive Emulator Question

Any decent hard drive will be much faster than the GameCube can handle, in terms of raw bandwidth (see below for the but). There are several implications with USB however: - Cost: High Speed mode is required in order to achieve loading speeds equal to or greater than the original DVD drive, which re...

WASP and WODE are the only available options, but hard to find these days because production went out. WASP custom is out of stock. There are much better solutions in development so keep an eye out for these.
