Re: Gamecube component cable

My apologies. I'm an idiot. One of the cap traces didn't connect to the rest of the trace as it was torn slightly. I then wired to the rest of the trace and all colors returned properly. SO, this means you can relocate the caps without worry. The only real issue with component is that its a major gr...

Re: Gamecube component cable

as you can see from the image in the first post, i think we can rule out trace latency as the issue due to my overall cable lengths used on the breadboard.. if you relocated the capacitors by connected wires to the original capacitor pads, then i dont see an issue. if you bypassed the ferrite conne...

Re: Gamecube component cable

Great work man! As a slight sidenote, I relocated the 3 large capacitors on the back of the normal component cable chip. Doing so caused my picture quality to be tinted (too much blue). Shortening the wires connecting the capacitors didn't seem to fix the problem. Should I use thicker wires?? Or are...

How are things going for the CubeSX/WiiSX

I couldn't find too much news on the playstation emulation progress for the cube/wii, so I thought I'd ask???

I know you guys were busy with the wii64 but I was just wondering if speed/compatibility was being worked on at all for the SX.

thx

yeah. I currently have 4 disc drives sitting idle. Maybe 2 of them work, where the others work now and then but have DRE sometimes.

Is there any plan to add a battery pack or something?
I probably won't because I won't ever need to play it outside of my apartment. There isn't room for batteries either. If a buyer ever wants a cord to a battery, I could do that.

Ashen, do you know what the problem is with compatibility??? Before I commit to the Wiikey Fusion, I wanted to make sure it could run all GC games.

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD

wow, the board works!?! Thats great. Im going to copy your cutting style and then do some more cuts to confirm what I know about the controller board area. I'm putting together a video that will show all the steps in slimming the board. Hopefully it makes these mods more mainstream for the hacking c...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD

Zen and tchay, few question about board cutting: 1. The 4 separate layers of the board are much closer together than I expected... Do I need to worry at all after cutting about the layers "bridging" together? I went all around the perimeter of the cut area with sandpaper as much as I coul...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD

I have faith that it still works... If so the really tricky part is going to be the cut along (roughly) that red line and reattaching everything there. Fun! Wire up the power pins and test it ;) It should work. Most of that stuff around the controller board area is useless :P I just rip off all of ...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD

What happens when you insert a Wii disc? Does it give an error, or does it just ignore the disc? It will probably be a DRE. Or it will magically play wii games on your gamecube :P and thanks gtmtnbiker, I'll take a look at those. EDIT: its on a timer, so it would have to be made manual (don't want ...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD

No no. Pin 29 does not ALWAYS need to be grounded. In fact a game will boot without it, but the GC errors out shortly after booting. Pin 29 I think expects to recieve a "low byte" signal after a game is booted. Grounding pin 29 tricks the drive into thinking its recieving this low signal....

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD

Okay, so you are saying that it must ALWAYS be grounded, even when you tap the 1.9v to pin 29??? I'm surprised that doesn't short the system as that is a voltage line going into ground....... But, if it worked then instead of a 2 way switch, we can just use a momentary push button. AKA, a tactile sw...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD

I would have but disc eject is still a work in progress. For things to work correctly the eject pin needs to stay grounded (low byte). To eject the disc it needs a 1-1.9v pulse. Gonna have to figure out a good way to do it. Also, I still am not giving up on the sundriver, especially now. :D :D :D :...

God this is so exciting. Not trying to put pressure on you Ashen, but this is really getting me giddy. If things get more difficult. I might consider buying a Sundriver to help you do the "guess and check" work. Good luck man :)

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD

This is great stuff guys. Would be very cool to have a disc driver with the gamecube. Sidenote Ashen, I assume you have heard of Benheck.com and Modretro.com? Good sites for portablizing info. Also, Ashen, you will actually want to use the DOL-001 if you want a small portable. It can be trimmed down...

Looking forward to it! I will definitely advertise this and spread it around when it gets released. Now, I COULD start spreading the word now to get people excited for it and hopefully have a bigger fanbase of buyers. Up to those in charge ;)
