Re: Guide to using cheats in Swiss

This guide applies to Swiss 0.4 r325 onwards. Swiss supports WiiRD format cheats in text files stored on a FAT16/FAT32 storage device such as a SD card connected to a memory card port via SD Gecko, IDE-EX or WKF/WASP. Cheats must live in a folder called "cheats" that is on the root of the...

Re: Gamecube digital cable VGA / RGBHV mod: soldering proble

Okay, problem solved. I did solder another connector to the cable, but this didn’t quite remove the issue. It turned out that the VGA cables (those blue ones that were shipped with monitors 10 years ago) I used in succession after the switch caused the problem. Exchanging them for thicker one made e...

Re: Gamecube digital cable VGA / RGBHV mod: soldering proble

Thanks again, megalomaniac. Your posts gave me hope and I managed to restore the cable to working RGBHV output. Soldering to the tiny broken leg took several attempts, but it worked out in the end. I only soldered to the leg, not to the PCB. I made sure everything within the plug was stable and glue...

Re: Gamecube digital cable VGA / RGBHV mod: soldering proble

That’s okay, I got four of them for cheap so I still have plenty. Still sad, but at least it wasn’t my only one or something. What exactly did I do that killed the cheap? Was it breaking off the “leg”? If so, why wouldn’t re-attaching a similar leg do the job? (Just trying to learn so I can do bette...

Gamecube digital cable VGA / RGBHV mod: soldering problem

One of the two Gamecube VGA cables I have has been going faulty lately. The monitors I connected it to said “out of range – 157 khz / 0 hz”, so I guessed that probably my sync soldering was rather bad. After some attempts of soldering it back together, I managed to make one of the MX pins fall off (...

Re: Wasp Fusion does not load since Swiss firmware flash att

It’s weird that the modified .ini files (which have 480p set for video mode) don’t have any affect, though. I’ve put SD cards with these Swiss.ini files in both Wasp and SD Gecko slots, but it still boots in 576p mode. It’s somewhat fine, though; my CRT monitors accept 576p signals. Yeah, I’m gonna ...

Re: Wasp Fusion does not load since Swiss firmware flash att

Okay, I was not able to wait and used r296 for everything (WBFS and FAT32 SD cards), flashing worked fine. I did not open the Swiss Flasher tool, I directly flashed swiss_r296(pal).fzn from Swiss r296. I am able to boot Super Smash Bros. Melee just fine! Yay. So I’m ready for the recovery instructio...

Re: Wasp Fusion does not load since Swiss firmware flash att

So, luckily I had another Wasp Fusion, breakout board (MPUzone) and Gamecube lying around and bought the proper NC switch today. I decided to put it into the second Gamecube so I could redo the wiring with my increased experience and it turned out much cleaner this time. When I start the second Game...

Re: Wasp Fusion does not load since Swiss firmware flash att

Yeah, it’s a “resting” / permanent type, not a temporary one. Gonna put in a new one as soon as possible. When am I supposed to break the contact for a split second? When the Gamecube starts trying to read from disc? Also, is it likely that having it on with the wrong switch type damaged the Wasp’s ...

Re: Wasp Fusion does not load since Swiss firmware flash att

Thanks for your quick reply! I have a switch installed that is wired to Wiikey pin 29, other end to Gamecube DVD port ground. When I start the Gamecube and go to the disc menu, toggling the switch will make the displayed text switch between “reading disc …” (never finishes) and “no disc found”. Is t...

Wasp Fusion does not load since Swiss firmware flash attempt

I soldered all Gamecube pins listed in the wiki tutorial to the FFC adapter board and connected it to the Wasp Fusion and managed to get “Linux for GC” to show up. So I was able to start the Wiikey Fusion software, update to 1.5 and load Swiss. I followed ShockSlayer’s tutorial: https://www.youtube....

Does that affect PAL RGB output over SCART as well?

It was painfully obvious, but of course it’s the H727’s fault. I should have gone for Micomsoft’s XCAPTURE-1 from the start. Also, the adapter I ordered from Solaris Japan is this one: http://www.solarisjapan.com/d-terminal-female-to-component-adapter-cable-male/ It works like a charm. No difference...

Re: Gamecube 480p over component: colors worse than 480i?

Thank you very much! Those look amazing. It should be my component cables that cause the problem then, I guess? I ordered a D-Terminal to component adapter from Solaris Japan, hopefully I’ll get better colors this way. Oh, by the way: For the Gamecube ones, did you use the standard official componen...

Re: Gamecube 480p over component: colors worse than 480i?

Maybe the YCbCr → YPbPr conversion in the MX chip adds to the color problem?

I looked at videos of streamers who use component in, for example Team Sp00ky who uses elgato Game Capture HD, and the blurring looks very similar there.

Re: Gamecube 480p over component: colors worse than 480i?

Thank you, so basically the YPbPr color model is the limiting factor?

I guess then the only way to improve my setup is to go for the Micomsoft SC-512 card and use its VGA recording + passthrough capatability.

Re: Gamecube 480p over component: colors worse than 480i?

Thanks for the reply. Still, I’m not quite convinced it’s just my card because the problem also persists on the reference monitor. I doubt Sony would be able to sell reference monitor that can’t display YPbPr properly.

Gamecube 480p over component: colors worse than 480i?

Hello, I use official japanese Gamecube component cables to feed YPbPr to my Avermedia H727 (PCIe capture card). Still images look better in 480i than in 480p. 480i (Melee’s Smooth Display is set to OFF): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5Dt5usRKFks/Uzl2Oe1gaGI/AAAAAAAAALw/TsH5dXKBdHc/w720-h480-no...

Thank you for the insight! Are there video formats later in the processing line, but still internal that could be used better?

Re: Dead Horse Beating: Gamecube Digital AV to direct HDMI

I have a noob question.

Has anybody done research on how the video data is processed before the Digital AV port? Maybe we could intercept it straight from the GPU, I guess it would be progressive RGBHV there which is split and encoded into CVBS, S-Video, SCART-RGB as well as proprietary YCbCr?

Re: Gamecube Digital AV to direct HDMI / VGA mod...

I have a PAL GC modded with a Qoob Pro. It can force PAL games into 480p just fine. Actually, all games that are 480p-capable as NTSC are also 480p-capable as PAL. The selection query has just been replaced by the 60 Hz query. I don’t understand much of what you’ve been writing. Is Digital AV’s YCrC...

Re: Gamecube internal resolution – 1920×1080?

1280×720 is slightly less than 1022×1022. Is it possible to force the Gamecube into putting this resolution out?

What is a good cross-converter that has no lag on its interlaced output?

Gamecube internal resolution – 1920×1080?

Hello. I've read on the German Wikipedia that the Gamecube's flipper GPU is capable of resolutions up to 1920×1080. Does anyone know if that's true? I was not able to find a trusty source. Also, I have the official component cable that I use to record gameplay. Unfortunately, when I choose progressi...

Re: Digital AV connection (HDMI)

Well, you won't get a digital video signal from the Gamecube. Even since the video is transferred digital before the MX chip, I think without precise documentation about the MX, nobody can come up with this. I read here that the digital av pins are known and carry a YCrCb signal. As far as I know, ...
