Re: Yet another USB Gecko clone

I actually have an Altera USB Blaster so I'll try that. Do you guys know of a good cheap and reliable source for the components? Mainly the CPLD and the FT245RL, the FT245RL is almost double the price of the CPLD on just about every site I find. I wouldn't risk ordering the FT245RL from China. Mine...

Re: Yet another USB Gecko clone

I will see if I can find some time to upload my files to github. Note that the parts mine uses are slightly different. I swapped the voltage regulator for a smaller one. You cannot use USBasp. I myself have a Xilinx programmer, but it is rather expensive . The advantage is that it works directly wit...

I think you need an ISP programmer. You can get those really cheap on ebay: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/New-USBASP-USBIS ... SwKIpWAgOh

Sounds good.

Then I can also have a look at what you are doing different than me to see why mine does not work. ;)

Re: Need a little advice on sound with Shuriken Video...

When looking at the pics of the ad, it seems he was able to install the Shuriken video internally. I wonder how he did that.

I guess in your case you just removed the digital video port?

I think this is the only drive emulator that is actually working well.

I do have plans to make a circuit board, if I ever get mine working..

Re: The Definitive DI / DVD Interface Thread

I'm also planning to start one of these (based around some fast ~100mhz ARM microcontroller and an SD card) so I'll add my own notes as I discover issues. Interesting. I have been thinking about that as well, but I am much more a hardware designer, so I usually settle with an FPGA. ;) What kind of ...

Re: The Definitive DI / DVD Interface Thread

I think Crazynation wrote some C code for the audio decompression. I will see if I can find it and upload it. :)

I still want to try to get my emulator working.. Discs are recognized. They just seem to fail when booting. :(

Bitbanging is the only way to do it afaik. ;)

I have done this with an ATmega8.

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

Ok, I'm bumping the rough BOM & notes against the schematic listed on andre104623's web page It is happy_bunny's website. Lastly, can I get a recommendation for a programmer? I'm doing this for fun, and this will likely be the only project I ever use it for, so I'm definitely not looking for high-e...

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

The site you are linking focuses on a smaller FPGA. Therefore, it does not have the OSD. I am pretty sure you cannot flash your FPGA with the bit file from there. Take a look at this post to see where you need to connect the controller via on your Shuriken board: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/vie...

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

I am not sure if sound is on by default. What you need to do for sound is enable "enhanced DVI" in the OSD. ;)

It is very unlikely that when a programming file is bad you still get something that partially works.

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

Seems like you are getting somewhere. :)

Did you connect the controller via to your shuriken video? You need to solder that separately, as it is not on the digital video port.

I have no idea what gcdev is. I think the first file you flashed is the right one.

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

I have no idea for now. Did you check your circuit with a multimeter? Check all voltages and check for shorts. You will need 1.2V and 3.3V. Check if there are no shorts on your JTAG signals. And you should definitely make sure you have the JTAG connected correctly. Take a look at the schematics of t...

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

Did you connect vref to 3.3V? That is what it needs, as the I/O on the FPGA is 3.3V as well.

I had a look at my board. INIT is not needed.

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

Are you able to detect your FPGA through impact? I think if you right click there is a setting called "autoconnect" or something. I do not have the software at the moment.

I suppose you connected the JTAG signals (TCK, TDI, TDO) and not the SPI signals?

Re: DVD Drive IO voltage

Awesome to hear this! :) I rewrote most of my stuff according to your suggestions. It is not working yet, but the design is a lot more simple. I see a lot of similar problems compared to the previous implementation, such as Wind Waker booting and then only issuing a 0x12 command after which it hangs...

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

I think you need all. I think the Shuriken board needs 3.3V directly, as in there is no regulator for it.I think the 1.2V is created with a regulator with the 3.3V as input. So you will need a source with 3.3V.

You could just tap off the 3.3V from the GameCube's digital video connector.

Re: Shuriken video v2 build with xc3s200a

You need to have power on the chip. The .bit file indeed contains the FPGA code. The .MCS file is meant to be written to the flash chip, which can be done through the JTAG connection of the FPGA.

Re: Cloning the GameCube component cable

You could check if you can use the .svf file with your programmer.

Check the FAQ:
The .svf file is useful for programming the chip with non-Lattice tools which support SVF playback, e.g. Xilinx' Impact.

Re: DVD Drive Emulator Question

I can't really say how much the frequency matters on the drive. After some more investigation into my problem with high speed transfers it seemed that it was not due to the transfer itself but actually some cache issues due to some mistake I made. I'm not sure why it worked with smaller buffers sin...
