Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
If I were in your shoes, the way I would try to figure things out would be to use a logic analyzer in two scenarios: 1. Wii playing a GC game via SunDriver 2. GC playing game via the GC DVD drive. Put the probes on the data & signal lines in both scenarios. For the data lines, the data should be...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Wow, impressive workspace. Very neat. You might want to contact twbinc over at http://debugmo.de/ He might be able to help answer your question as he seems to have a lot of hardware/software experience. What is your background? What you're doing is pretty impressive for someone who doesn't have hard...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Nothing wrong with making mistakes as long as you learn from them. It sometimes help to bounce ideas off others when you get stuck. As a developer, I'm always having to trouble shoot so it definitely helps to verify that something works in its original application before trying to use it in a differ...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Also, what version is your Wii running? Is it 4.3?
There are issues with using SunDriver with Wii 4.3. See this thread:

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
I don't think it has anything to do with your Wii being softmodded. From a hardware perspective, the SunDriver makes it looks like it's a dvd drive to the Wii. I suggest poking/asking in a Sundriver forum to see if anyone has any thoughts on this. I'll see if I can dig up some info for you myself. A...

Re: My Wii doesn't like the router....WTF?
Have you tried updating the firmware in the router to a newer revision? What version is the system software on the Wii? I remember when I first got my Wii, it was running 3.2 and I had trouble connecting to the router. After I moved to 4.1. I haven't had any issues whatsoever. The router is in my ba...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
A logic analyzer allows you to see multiple signals at once in relation to each other. It tells you if it's high or low. An oscilloscope is more of an analog tool. You can see how high or how low the voltage might be but you only have one line. My thought is that you would put the logic analyzer on ...

You might want to consider a logic analyzer instead of a scope.

Re: Question about installing a chip
To add to emu's list, I would also get flux and kynar wire. flux is what you put on a contact that you want to solder. When it is heated up by the iron, it cleans the surface and makes it easy for the solder to flow onto it. I recommend using kynar wire (or any thin wire) for connecting the chip to ...

Re: Building a portable GC: Need options other than DVD
Interesting discussion here that I enjoy following. I might be mistaken but I wonder if it would be better to hook the SunDriver to the Wii and trace the pins/voltages there before trying to hook it to the GC. I would think that a Wii drive wouldn't have a lid sensor. It would always be set to 0 or ...

I thought the gamecube laser can actually read up to 3.1GB of data or something like that with the case removed. I seem to recall seeing this somewhere in some forum.

Re: When buying a Wii now...
Yeah.. it's pretty easy. I'd strongly recommend not using a USB HDD without a Wode or some hardware implementation. The software stuff can be tedious if you don't have large amounts of time to sit there and update your IOS/System software carefully. I haven't updated mine (running 4.2) in a year an...

I think I'm all set. The seller just emailed me and said that the plus version has the word "plus" next to the I & II on the cover. So I think I have the original version of the game.

Phantasy Star Online I & II - how to distinguish the plus ve
I recently got a copy of PSO I & II for the Gamecube. How does one know if it's the plus version or not.
As best as I can tell, it seems that the plus version has the blue background cover instead of white. Is this how you tell? Or is there some other method?

You might be better off just buying a GC keyboard. I think you can find them for under $20.
