Re: Correcting PAL mode on NTSC systems

Circuitry differences, I'm all ears. I already own a component cable to test 50hz component. While yes buying a pal unit instantly gets me pal50, my objective is research on the 50hz mode of ntsc units. I've never used an imported pal or pal-m tv. from what I understand a pal tv is unlikely to accep...

Re: Correcting PAL mode on NTSC systems

Correcting myself here, according to Extrems, DOL-002 is the exact same hardware as an NTSC DOL-001 unit, but with a different IPL. So PAL-M mode will work fine, as long as the decoder (your TV) supports and detects it. Perhaps. What TVs allow manual override of format standards, by letting you cho...

Re: Correcting PAL mode on NTSC systems

Thanks. For sure heaps of enlightenment in there.
The other thing I would've needed to reach this conclusion myself, is a device to analyze the signal.

Re: Swiss? Best way to store ISO's?

Thanks for the reply. I read that the size limit is 4GB on SD cards for Gamecube, is that not true? Chris No. It's that some older software wasn't updated for larger cards. In practice however, Gamecube lacks any native SD support. It only works when programmed in. (you might've noticed Nintendo's ...

Re: Correcting PAL mode on NTSC systems

Now I'm more curious. That's a bit different from Extrems' answer. Anyway, how do you configure the video encoder? A useless outcome is still educational in giving the console more exhaustive documentation. On the other hand if had access to such Gamecube technical docs, I'd have been able to learn ...

I don't follow. PAL-M and PAL are both encoded in PAL.

Re: Correcting PAL mode on NTSC systems

The choice is either NTSC 50 Hz or PAL-M 50 Hz. Interesting, how do you enable that? I wasn't aware of a way of getting NTSC 50 Hz from a gamecube. Why not humor me, and point in the right direction to encode PAL-M 50 Hz into PAL 50 Hz? I may lack soldering ability but I can ogle at diagrams and si...

Modding GCN color encoding between NTSC/PAL

It's been said that NTSC Gamecubes use PAL-M at 50hz. Then how practical is a color fix circuit to get PAL50? I don't think I've seen much research on the malformed video signal. DVI/HDMI mods, component cable, and stuff avoid the issue rather than tackle it. *Topic title updated to reflect a more g...

Re: xeno gc still giving red light, may hav fkd up

Pressing start on some xeno gc versions, loads a menu that uses PAL mode. It's unclear why the xeno gc makers never released an NTSC edition of those chips. http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2740&mode=nested&order=0&thold=-1 (NTSC gamecubes display 50hz...

Re: NTSC Game to PAL GBA game?

Very few games are sensitive to the encoding. If your modchip patches gamecube games to bypass the region check (which is made by the game), then you're good. Hey. F-Zero GX is hilarious. A mangled wreck of English, Engrish, Japanese, and missing graphics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuUP...

Re: NTSC Game to PAL GBA game?

PAL English Pokemon Ruby is fine on NTSC Pokemon Colosseum. Other PAL languages are unlikely to work.

Playing GameCube games from any region can get messy. There's compatibility issues to watch out for. (mainly the language / character encoding of Japanese games)

Re: Just bought a new cube. where to start

Awesome, so without hardware modding to force the GC to bypass the disc check I can't use say a burnt boot disc, only a commercial one? Just to clarify I read on some old topics that the GC didn't read FAT32 filesystem so people could only have 2GB worth of games. Has this limitation been overcome?...

That will work. You need a commercially released boot disc to launch Swiss. (SD Media Launcher, Action Replay, exploitable correct-region game)

Re: Noob Q: Booting Homebrew without Discs?

A real GameCube needs hardware mods. No system menu exploit found. I'm not familiar with bypassing the drive, but for typical use I'd aim to keep it functional. I believe game compatibility is best from discs. Look into what has comparable features to the currently sold-out megadrive v4. http://www....

Personal preference and I got mine within 2 days of ordering it. I think the Pluto board looks just fine...
