Re: Cleaning discs before burning
A eye glasses cleaning kit would probably be ideal as it uses alcohol 'dries without residue' and a scratch free cloth plus it could probably be purchased at your neighborhood Dollar Store.

Re: GameCube laser keeps clicking and doesn't read the discs
Check for shorts, even a small amount of unseen solder can cause problems, a cheap mulitmeter can test for this.
Use electrical tape on the under side of the chip 'after soldering' to not cause a short on the board as well.
This is how I do installs for reference

I mounted a 80mm PC fan to the side on one of my cubes. The only thing that matters is 12v and correct amps

Re: GameCube laser keeps clicking and doesn't read the discs
I just ran into one that refused to read burned games until I lowered the onms to 50 even with new laser. But it would read OEM games at 180

Makes me think of disk rot or the drives unique fingerprint when burning. Can we see a picture?

Recently received a SSBM complete in box, Box set from a trade. Even has the slip cover thing but I can not find anything about it online, not even a price.
Any info is appreciated.

Re: GC fan replacement
Wow looks great, Good job.
I had cut off the fan housing in one and attached a 80mm to the outside of the enclosure. Doesn't collect as much dust as I thought but it sure did push air in the tight space it was in at the time.

The concern I had was the downscaling but you seemed to cover your bases quite nicely.
Good luck on your speed runs.
What games are you planning to do?

If I remember correctly the pal version has a lower video quality. I would recommend NTSC-U or J for starters

Re: Controller port 1 not working.
Controller Port one is the most used. It's possible that the connection on the dongle is a bit worn and not making a proper connection with the worn first port. I would test with another controller, if it works fine then it's the dongle and would only require reshaping the pins

Re: Gamecube Start-up beep sound!
Vertigo on NFGGames says 'The light beeping noise you're hearing is the machine reading the boot code on the disc. If you listen closely to your PS it does the same thing but in a lower pitch. Most disc systems have an audible boot recognition, I believe this is because it's an audio track, most of ...

Oh I also forgot to mention.
The caps are not easily removed 'Think cheap ps3 controller', a noob would most likely damage the controller in the process of getting that sucker off.
