Re: Why are cheats way more unstable on GameCube hardware?
There's also the problem of codes relying on specific dcache behavior which can't work in Dolphin.

There's currently no way to reflash it without a programmer if you're not already running Cobra.

Use an SD gecko to load backups, it's cheap and you can reuse the card later with any ode you buy.

You would have to take the entire drive apart and test the motor directly.

Re: Question: dead laser = disc motor wont start?
Yes that's correct, if it doesn't think there's a disc, it won't even try to start the spindle motor. That short back and forth motion happens before spin-up. Doesn't exclude the possibility of a dead spindle though.

Re: Auto boot Swiss & load Backups
There's no best way. You'll have to look for someone who has one and is willing to sell it. They're fairly rare nowadays. Difficulty of installation depends on the adapter that you get for it, but it'll most likely require soldering. I think big SD cards will work on wode, which also supports USB dr...

Re: Auto boot Swiss & load Backups
Your options are: - xenogc with a Swiss DVD, also allows booting DVD backups directly - qoob or viper with iplboot + Swiss on SD, Swiss as a "plugin", or a Swiss DVD; Swiss, Cobra and the Qoob BIOS allow booting DVD backups directly - wiikey/wasp fusion or wode (best compatibility for back...

Re: N64 games on swiss
Swiss itself can't play Nintendo 64 games. You need an emulator such as Cube64/Wii64 or Not64, or the one from the Master Quest/Collector's Edition discs which you can inject ROMs into.

It should work, but I've never tested any of this. I use hardware mods.

That's easily worked around with appended arguments, the more annoying issue is having to burn and waste discs each time you want to change something or update GBI.

Re: New to HOMEBREW, SWISS, & GBI. Need help!
1) If you have Swiss on your memory card then that's enough, you can load anything from SD with it. 2) You can update the memory card on the GC itself with either Swiss or GCMM, but be careful not to lock yourself out with no Swiss file on your memory card. Alternatively, you can just put new Swiss ...

Re: Looking to hire a modder
It is not twitter I am even talking about. The gamecube reddit has some very lengthy and angry posts as well regarding their practices. Plenty to be found. Perhaps they have improved but whatever, i shouldn't have even brought it up. I really don't care. But I would stay away from it. Whether it's ...

Re: Looking to hire a modder
Badass consoles doesn't take orders at the moment for any of their listed products. When I was very active in the gamecube community back in March and February, it was known that the customer service is very poor and that some orders were never fullfilled nor refunded. Just because you had a good e...

Well in this case, yes you can. The gamecube is a very low power system so it doesn't need much in terms of cooling.

Well, that's all I can do for you. You said you have a "real" xeno on the way, wait for that and see if that changes anything. It'd be strange but I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Streetwalrus's first GameCube
Linux is completely out of the equation with xenopie, you only need to install it to your sd card for the GPU boot blobs which are required to load both Linux and bare metal kernels. The only advice I can give you is triple-check your wiring again. It's really weird that it's only misbehaving with o...

The gamecube already uses thermal pads and they're more than good enough. Don't bother changing them.

Re: Is it possible to install/run non gci files off of a standard memory card (such as z64) for gamecube ?
Like Extrems said, this isn't supported, mostly because of space constraints. 16MB capacity means that in practice you won't be able to fit 16MB ROMs unless trimmed, which excludes the majority of games. You can get an SD adapter for very cheap, so it was never deemed worth it.

The Gameboy player is literally a GBA. Unless an accessory depends on the physical form factor of the console, it's compatible.

Re: Trying to edit save data project
If you have access to homebrew (GC or Wii), you can copy your saves with gcmm.
The actual editing requires knowledge of the save format which isn't always easy to reverse engineer. Many games also have a checksum and reject the save outright if it's broken.
