No controller input, beta 2.1

I can't seem to get WiiSX to process any controller input during emulation.
I have tried running both in HLE and with the bios (SCPH1001.bin).
So far I've tried Blast Chamber and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 turbo and both seem to have the same issue.
In both cases the games appear to run fine, and even go into their demo modes since they never see any controller input.
i've tried using both a gamecube controller and a wiimote w/ nunchuck, neither worked.
Any suggestions?
