Hard Drives with Multiple Partitions

Post by Elliander » Sun Sep 18, 2011 9:27 am

Hi. I have WiiSX installed and am able to start games just fine from USB, but I am having trouble loading games from a USB hard drive.

Error opening directory "usb:/wiisx/ios"

I made sure the directory was created within the partition and attempted both NTFS and FAT32 without success. The same hard drive also has a WBFS partition which I use for the backing up of Wii games. Since "MPlayer CE" is able to view media files on the FAT32 partition for watching on my television in theory I should have no problems loading it. Is there support for hard drives with multiple partitions at this time, or at least future plans for such? If it should be possible what am I doing wrong?

(Note: I own a Playstation 1 so have a right to use BIOS files. I also own every Playstation title I am attempting to load. My desire for using this is to have better access to reliable saving methods and to free my counter of clutter and be able to keep my old consoles in storage.)

Right now, WiiSX and Wii64 don't have official USB support; there are hacked versions out there that do but they aren't supported by the Wii64/WiiSX Team. Here's hoping the next versions will support it. I mean, I can't see why they don't, as storing 10+ PSX games on an SDHC card isn't financially viable (a 32 or 64GB card costs exponentially more than a 500GB USB HDD) for most people.

Oh, I see. Well I knew that Wii64 didn't support it because there was no option for it, but I thought since there was an option for it in WiiSX. I actually do have a 32 GB SDHC Card and that is large enough to hold all my N64 games (should I report which N64 games do not work, or would that not help?) and as long as I don't keep all my Playstation games on the SD Card at one time I can play some games. I'm just glad it wasn't something wrong on my end.

So how frequently do they update, are the updates always available from Homebrew Browser, and what website is their official development site so I could make donations for the development? Is there a list of what they are currently working on somewhere and future plans?

http://emulatemii.com/ is the site they use for announcements, progress updates, release information, etc.
http://emulatemii.com/wordpress/?page_id=66 is for donations.

http://code.google.com/p/pcsxgc/ is for the development of WiiSX/CubeSX.
http://code.google.com/p/mupen64gc/ is for the development of Wii64/Cube64.

They only update the official binaries and repositories, when they finished a major part and consider the changes stable. Besides that, development is a work in progress, emu_kidid said that they are currently working on their own, focussing on different aspects and will release once they merged the code. (Well not exactly, this is read between the lines ;-))

The availiability of programs in the homebrew browser depends on the authors of the update feed they use. The authors will only add something, when they know that it exists, so it can take some days after the actual release. http://www.codemii.com/ is their site, currently they add programs weekly.

Planned features for Wii64 are here http://emulatemii.com/wordpress/?page_id=33 but I dont know if this list is up to date.

when i read the text on "http://wiibrew.org/wiki/WiiSX" i find that they are supporting USB in FAT.

"You can load ROMs and saves from a FAT formatted SD or USB"

the programme has a button just for that
and also other people on this board here answered, that the HD just has to be formatted in FAT.

as i also had a partionized HD
and FAT wasn't the first partion,
i thought it is because of that. that wiisx doesnt find this special partion at the end of my HD.

so i deleted the whole HD and formated it new in FAT,
put the game in the correct folder ("usb:/wiisx/isos"),
but i still get the same answer:

"Error opening directory "usb:/wiisx/ios"

by the way, the game worked when i started it from SD

do it support USB-FAT-Harddrives, or not?

and you have told us that there are some unofficial hacks, which do support FAT-HDs.
Where can I find them?
Where can I download them?

WiiSX really just makes sense if you are able to store your old PS1 games on a hd.
SD is much to small for my collection -.-
