Hack controls N64 WAD

I want to map the D-pad to use the analog in Cruis'n USA virtual console, 'cause the D-pad works, but sucks, is hard and woody and there aren't solutions in the options to fix this.
Via emulator like P64 I tried to map the analog with the D-pad and works very fine, I need then to map it.
Where is in the WAD the file where the pad configuration is stored?
Otherwise a way to hack directly the rom to force the D-pad left and right to works like the analog stick?
I can patch the WAD with the new updated rom but I don't know where the map configuration is stored.
