GC-Forever Gamecube and Wii coding competition

Post by emu_kidid » Wed May 05, 2010 3:03 am

I'm very happy to announce a Gamecube & Wii coding competition,
with a nice handful of prizes to hopefully make it worth while :)

Prizes:
The prizes will be awarded regardless of category or platform (Gamecube or Wii)
First Prize: Choice of WODE or Gamecube pack*
Second Prize: The left over from First prize
Third Prize: Qoob Pro Modchip
Fourth Prize: SDGecko + 2GB SD Card loaded with GC homebrew + XenoGC
Fifth Prize: SDGecko + Wiikey

The rules of entry are:
- All entries must have http://www.gc-forever.com shown on the first screen
- All work must be original and not derived from anywhere else
- All applications must be compilable with the latest libOGC/devkitPPC
- No copyrighted code/resources must be present in the entry
- Entries must not have been presented/released elsewhere before
- Full source code MUST be provided on request to verify the above

Types of entries we are looking for:
Demos - Get creative! :)
Emulators - This is the only category where ports of pre-existing software are allowed,
but emulators will mainly be judged on their usability (GUI, Framerate)
Games - Try to keep them appropriate and original
Utilities & Tools - Please, nothing that's been done before unless it is significantly better

All entries will be judged by 3 members (the members of Wii64Team)

Deadline:
August 1st is the competition entry deadline, prize winners will be announced on the 5th of August with prizes sent out shortly after.

How to submit your entry:
All entries must be submitted in the thread which will be created a week before release in the Coding Competition forum, or via PM if you are unable to do so at that time.

Discussion:
A new forum has been created here for all competition discussion

*Pack includes a Gamecube console pre-modified with XenoGC,
complete with cables, controller, SDGecko, 2GB SD Card,
and a bootable disc ready to boot homebrew. Console
will come with appropriate region power adapter and
will be NTSC/PAL capable but it is a PAL console at heart.

*If you run a console/modding website and want to sponsor some prizes, feel free to let me know*

A good start would be to download the devkitpro setup.

From there, download devkitPPC and libOGC.

Examples are provided for you to look at in the setup but you must know C or C++ to be able to do anything productive with it all.
