Pb on GC component not working

Post by dudemcgrude » Tue Jan 21, 2014 8:14 pm

I have recently brought my gamecube out of retirement and hooked it up to my HDTV. I happen to own a set of the component cables but noticed that the Pb (the blue one) rca was not working at all leaving me with a pale and green tint to my picture. Since these cables are priced in the ludicrous tier, buying a replacement isnt in my interest.

my own troubleshooting was as followed:
-cleaned all connectors, ports
-tested tv with seperate component source (worked fine)
-looked over hardware for any obvious wear (none, infact the cables are in great shape)

I havent tried to hook into another TV yet, but will do that when the neighbor gets back. I am also waiting on the arrival of another DOL-001 gamecube from ebay to see if it is the cube itself.

I guess im looking to see if anyone has seen this issue before or if its looking like i need to repair the cable itself. I appreciate the help!

I've bought a set on ebay that were not working / broken..
One of the cables had a pinch in the line which broke it..
I just replaced the lead and worked perfect

If you are able to troubleshoot / solder, open it up and check it out..
If you are cautious about doing something like that then you can send the cable to me and I'll fix it

Ok, i was hoping it had to deal with the line and not the electronics.

I did open it up, but then I chickened out in terms of doing anything. I didnt see anything obvious at the contact point, but it was tough to see. I'll wait on the arrival of my other GC and check my results there and if i get the same i may just take you up on your offer! Thanks for the info.

On a related note, the fact that im getting any display at all is a good sign in terms of the electronics portion of the chip (digital analog converter) correct?

based of the data you have provided, i can assume the following:
1. your GC digital port is putting out signal properly.
2. your MX chip is receiving the digital signals properly.
3. most of the circuitry on the entire MX board appears to be working properly.

but these are just assumptions...

would need to test from the negative side of the capacitor to the center pin at the end of that lead but that will not verify if the capacitor is working or if there are other issues...
if anything, yes, testing with a multimeter will at least verify continunity of the cable lead itself..
