Viper GC Extreme not playing backups
Hi all,
I have recently acquired a Gamecube with a Viper Extreme Mod Chip with the USB flash installed aswell. It's got cobra 2.1 BIOS installed. I've tried to burn disks a few different times now and none of them have worked. I've tried just burning onto a DVD, and tried the Viper multigame maker and neither are working. They're not working in GCOS 1.5 or swiss 0.3 (the newest one) plus I've tried an older version of swiss and the regular GC Bios and none of them are booting discs.
In swiss it gets 75% and then gives me "Error: Disk not initialized".
I've burned at x3 and x4, on different types of DVD-R's.
Anyone got any tips?
Thanks,
Kyle

First things first : do originals works, do imports work and do backups work, in all three cases without Swiss ?

Originals work fine in the regular GC BIOS and in Swiss.
I've no imports to try and my problem is with back ups! They don't work in the normal BIOS or swiss. Is there a certain way to burn them that im missing? This is onto a full size DVD-R.
Thanks

Follow this, it sounds like your laser needs either a tweak/clean/replace: http://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.ph ... ser_Tuning

Even though retail games are playing fine?emu_kidid wrote:Follow this, it sounds like your laser needs either a tweak/clean/replace: http://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.ph ... ser_Tuning

Yes, check the guide, retail games are the easiest for a laser to read. Sounds like you need to figure out what strength the potentiometer is at.
Or, use better media.

I've been using vertabaim so I don't think it'll be that. I'm trying to take the GC to bits now but one of the screws is worn down, any tips?

I've found verbatim to be good, but the first burner I used was HORRIBLE.BloodyJonesy wrote:I've been using vertabaim so I don't think it'll be that. I'm trying to take the GC to bits now but one of the screws is worn down, any tips?
Switched to a different computer for burning and now they work at a wider pot value (not where it had to be exactly within 5ohm minimum, more like plus minus 20 ohm which is way easier to adjust considering the sensitivity and possibly getting a lower ohm over time due to laser getting worn.

As a last resort, you can try this:
WoodyWoodpecker wrote:Another thing you can try is taking a black or dark permanent marker and draw a line at the end of the disk surface (label side, off course). See image.
The part you want to colour is from the edge of the label to the outer edge of the disk.
This isn't a cure-all solution but it worked amazingly well for me!
