VGA Component Cable

Post by oaty541 » Mon May 19, 2014 6:01 pm

Hi,
I have a VGA component cable which I would like to use on my monitor. The problem is that when the cable is plugged into my monitor the image produced isn't still (moves up and down). The cable itself requires a VGA male to VGA male adapter (a VGA male to DVI male adapter could also be used?), so that it can be plugged into the monitor. The monitor I am using is a Viewsonic VX2433wm, also a PAL Gamecube is being used. Below is a link of what the cable and adapter looks like.

Thanks

You need to enable progressive scan for it to work. Hold B on startup with NTSC titles and you can select it. Not in pal games though. You can force it with Swiss though.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Sadly all of my games are PAL, and what is Swiss? Sorry I'm not very knowledgeable about this.

I forgot to mention that the image moves up and down on the home screen as well.

Do you have a modchip installed ?
Also you can turn this in a regular component cable and play on a TV.

No mod chips are installed on the Gamecube, it's just an original one.
And I do have a regular component cable, but I just wanted to see if I could get the same quality on a monitor.

Well, Swiss is a backup launcher that also allows you to force 480p on original titles. Without 480p, your component cables are not more useful than the SCART cable anyway. 480p will look better than 480i for sure.
You need to install a modchip or buy SD media launcher (though that's a PITA to use) to run Swiss.

So there is no way to play on my monitor using this cable?

I think there's a problem with the frequency being just a little bit lower than a TV can handle. Keep the cable tho, it has a rare and valuable chip in it.

There is if you get a modchip. If you can wait and have money (you should since you have two component cables O.O) then buy a Megadrive v4 + WASP fusion from Megalomaniac when it's out. You won't regret it.

Action Replay or Freeloader are options, those will let many NTSC games work.
Godzilla is said to be among the only PAL games to ever support 480p.

Even with modchips the home screen is a problem. You'd have to find an alternate memory card manager.

GCMM is apparently great and allows much more than the IPL's menu.

Thanks for all the replys

I guess I'll just have to use the TV then, as I don't really want to install any modchips.

Why not ? The Megadrive v4 is completely plug and play and easy to revert.

Strapped for cash atm as I'm saving up for a holiday. But I will consider it at a later stage

No problem. Take the time to study things.

For what you're wanting to do, a fancier modchip is more convenient. The simple ones need a boot disc to force 480p.

Alright so the modchip to look out for is the Megadrive v4? Is there any others which I should know about, or is the Megadrive v4 the only one I need?

The Megadrive v4 is a modified DVD drive that allows easily fitting a WASP fusion. I think Mega is going to sell it as a pack so yes.

Not too familiar with those. Do they have an option to force 480p?

In itself it doesn't but since you can flash Swiss on it for autoboot (pretty sure Mega will do that himself), then Swiss can force 480p. And you get SD backup loading => no more messing with discs.

Is it? That makes it sound like it was created to play pirated games. I'd say it's a very versatile GameCube software launcher.

I lost my MKDD disc, but I had a backup. Is that piracy, or just being careful? (Note I did not sell it, I actually believe it has been stolen or teleported to the sixth dimension).
