Does Burn Speed Matter?

Post by Midori » Wed Oct 01, 2014 11:21 pm

I've heard all kinds of things from burn at 1x speed for safety, or burn at 16x it doesn't matter, or the max you can burn at is 4x for Gamecube games on a Gamecube.
Is there a limit on the burn speed you should be using for Gamecube games for a Gamecube? Thanks.

I always use 4x or whatever the minimum above 4x is (some only let me do 6 or 8x). I've found that discs read better if they're burnt at a lower speed but if it's for a quick homebrew test or something I'll use max speed.

Depends on the burner as well, I tried to do 1x on a Mac and it just wouldn't read, then I tried 1X on a shitty acer (better than the imac anyways) and that worked without issues. Only about 2000$ price difference haha.

Yes, especially if the laser in your cube is picky. FWIW, after trying various speeds, I found that mine read most reliably when I used 8x for full-size and 2x for mini-DVDs. Also, some burners work better than others. Burning a few test discs should give a good idea of what works best.
