SD Media Card Launcher and Swiss

Hi all, newb here seeking knowledge from the net. I've search this forum and others and I can't tell what I'm doing wrong. I have a SD media Card Launcher with a 2GB card (non HD) and trying to load ROMs. With Swiss 1.5 (or 0.3) I can select the game but it says "Nintendo" then a black screen. I deleted everything off the card and tried the "Swiss Nightly Build" (0.4) and that it can't read the SD card. I select SD card and it churns for a bit then asks if I want to load a DVD. Help? What am I missing?

Is there maybe a more clear step by step tutorial?
I simply dragged and droipped the files from the Nightly Swiss onto the SD card and put my ISO in the ISO folder. I'll attach screenshots.

SDML interferes with the SD card plugged into the slot. Try something like this:

Boot SDML and then Swiss
Remove any SD card adapters completely from the GameCube
In Swiss, go to the eject/load icon on the left by pressing B and then A once highlighted to bring up the device menu
Insert the SD card adapter with the SD card into the GameCube
Press A on the SD Gecko entry to read from the device, repeat and use X to make the speed Fast or Compatible and see if that makes any difference.

Tried what you said emu_kidid, no dice. I wonder if maybe its my SD or I'm missing something. Everything seems so straight forward from the videos.

I'll dig up my SDML and give it a shot, something has potentially broken in Swiss or libOGC.

Also try moving all files off the ad card, formatting it, and putting them back. Swiss doesn't like file system fragmentation and can behave unusual if your SD card is fragmented.

Swiss definitely supports fragmentation.

Thanks emu_kidd. And I've tried formatting. I'm using a transcend 2gb SD card. What is the best card brand to use for this? Also do I have to use a 2gb? Or does something higher work?

i'm consistently having issues with it, and it is always fixed after a format :?

4GB should work, but those are nearly impossible to find. All that matters is that it is an SD card. Not SDHC, nor SDXC. However, you can swap out the SD card for SDHC once swiss has booted

Not sure why you're having issues with fragmentation. I have fragmented games on my SD card and I've never encountered any issue. There is support code in the in-game patch and libfat itself supports fragmentation for everything that happens in the menu itself.

capzlk, how many fragments does swiss report the game as when it fails? There's a limit to how many fragments are supported.

I've broken my only SD USB adapter so I can't put anything on a < 4GB card right now but I will test this out shortly.

Luigis mansion was known to hang at Nintendo logo (at least way back when I was more regular here on the forum)

Update: I burned Luigi's Mansion onto a Mini DVD-R and did the Pot Adjustment that got the game to run for like 20 minutes, still can't get it too run off the SD card though, I might just pick up a Xeno Chip.

If you're already running homebrew, why bother with a XenoGC?

Who wants to swap disc every time to play DVD-R games?

Well because I can't figure this out and I'm a sysadmin haha. When it comes to this stuff I'm flying blind. Also for testing purposes. Why can I get it to load from a DVD but not the SD card? The Xeno would be if I can't get the SDML to work, then I'll just buy mini DVD-Rs and burn my games, I'd rather not but I don't know what else to do about the SDML.

Did you try a different SD card adapter? Maybe it isn't letting the SD card access properly.

SD vs DVD-R loading is an entirely different ball game. When you run something from SD, the DVD read functions are patched to re-direct reads to the SD adapter which requires a lot of screwing around.

Also, Luigis Mansion is known to be problematic but I'm fairly sure that the issues with it were fixed a while back. I'll see what I can find, it may just be your SD card, why not try a game that is known to be working like Twilight Princess or Mario Kart DD.

Luigis is working fine in latest Swiss, get another SD card/adapter.

Ok, I'll try a new card first. If that's not it any recommendations on adapters? and is SDML the way to go?

Also can I boot into Swiss of my 2GB SD where I get the menu for DVD or Gecko then swap SD cards for something like a 8GB SDHC?

Yeah, some people have issues swapping cards (specifically when having booted from SDML) which is the next thing I'll look into. You may be better off burning Swiss to DVD-R and getting a XenoGC so you can boot straight into Swiss with your larger SD card already in.

Get another SD Adapter, the $3 dealextreme type called "wiiSD" (possibly sold out) or anything is way better than the SDML adapter.

They don't sell it on DX anymore, apparently there are some on ebay though, but they're a little more expensive.
