Are Gamecube save files region locked? Playing mostly NTSC games on PAL cube.

In short:
Yes

In long:
Each savegame has the game code at the beginning of it's savefile - for example "G3FP69" or "GCCP01".
The PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J have their own game code each. Some games even have different codes within a region (TimeSplitters FP for example has a code for each language release).

It's possible to change the region by changing the gamecode to the one the other region release uses.

But ... NTSC games still save an "NTSC savefile" even when played on a PAL cube (at least I think so).
Own a couple PAL and JPN cubes. And three BBAs. Homeland and PSO I/II.

There are some slight differences between releases so save files might not be compatible even if you change the game ID in them.

I think I saw a savegame region-converter-tool somewhere.

As far as I know they only do what I described above. Changing the gamecode for example from PAL SSBM to NTSC-U SSBM or NTSC-J.

@Streetwalker: Yeah, that's true.
