Broadband and modem adapters

I bought a broadband adapter for my gamecube and I was wondering if its possible to connect lan games between modem and broadband adapters. I don't wanna pay another $80 for another broadband adapter. besides speeds are there any other differences?

LAN games only support the BBA. Phantasy Star Online is the online game that uses the modem.
