New owner of Xeno GC , its features ? + Game help

Post by mistamontiel » Sat Aug 05, 2017 2:02 am

Salutations

My Qoobchip analog-only GC .. the reader/eye/laser is completely shot ={ So I bought a Xeno DOL-001

My Qoobchip has snes9x on it , and I have a disc full of SNES .. but I guess now seeing that Xeno chip is simply a authenticity+region bypass , must I put together an emulation iso , er is the memory card SD thing worthy ? Which ? I would love to play SNES on GC again

Now , onto the Twin Snakes Special Disc , I've got Phillips and Fujifilm mini-DVDs at the moment .. did Imgburn 4x on each .. but it displays nothing only PRESS START .. n then all I get is black screen :?:

Thanks for havin me !

Burn Swiss to a disc. It can run programs on SD cards, sparing the effort to make a disc for each emulator.

Are you using the component cable on an HDTV? Some TVs don't support 240p from component. Mega Man X Collection and a few other things may be unplayable at worst. I've never heard about Metal Gear being affected, but this page says the NES game is 240p.

GROOVY ! Where may I see the latest Swiss ? And I guess Ridata mini-DVDs are still king ?

Not ready to pony up serious money for component .. er maybe its options .. I play over S-Vid , on CRT and also have beefy projection type display , for what it's worth

EDIT: I see , so thankfully for Xeno I can Swiss !

You can also flash iplboot to your Qoob pro, as long as you have an SD adapter and the USB thing. https://github.com/Streetwalrus/iplboot

Excellent , well I was reading the XenoGC wiki here , so Ritek G05 discs are the way to be ? I have Phillips and Fujifilm .. I wanted to leave them alone since I read good things about Ridata .. but I did a test burn of Swiss (boots great) , and Imgburn told me my Fujifilm is Ritek G04 ? Good enough ? http://ultraimg.com/images/2017/08/06/GUTR.png

Silly question , is the eject button totally safe ? Since the drive nudges down with it

So now I will need a memory card with SD slot .. though I fear there are many knock-offs and overall bad ones though .. and I guess Kingston are good storage media ?

I can't personally vouch for kingston, but they should be fine. I usually buy sandisk and I know that samsung is also good. SD card class shouldn't matter in theory, but it's still an indicator of higher quality, and you may want higher class to write games to it faster.

What eject button are you talking about? The one in Swiss? That is simply to switch to another medium, stopping the drive is intentional and harmless.

The eject button in the drive , that pops out the disc , that does not hurt ?

EDIT: Do I want this ..?

Nah that won't hurt anything either.

That's the most popular adapter, usually works fine. Sometimes you need tape under the PCB to make the connection more reliable. I don't think you can find anything else now.

"IPL/Game Language: English"? I guess that's an option to try changing.
Right now the game should believe the console is not Japanese.

Just burnt r424 , still no dice

Interesting in Current Game Settings 3/3 tab for a split second I can see "failed to save" , but the Disable Audio Streaming Yes still shows , don't know why game will not play

You don't need to burn new Swiss versions, put the new ones as boot.dol instead.

FAT32 is used for larger SD cards. Usually 4GB and greater.

I have no idea why Swiss wouldn't show a Japan option.
A few games need Japanese settings to avoid glitches. Xeno GC doesn't change the console's IPL/BIOS region.

Yes, at the root of the card. Swiss supports most variations of FAT (except for vFAT) so it doesn't matter. FAT16 can handle up to 16GB filesystems, but you should use FAT32 anyway.

The Japanese option is in game-specific settings, and it's called "Force Text Encoding". Set it to ANSI for the Latin font, and SJIS for the Japanese font. If I recall correctly, you shouldn't need to touch this as Swiss is supposed to detect the game's region and launch it in the right mode.

Oh well ..

How do I copy over the GCS/GCI saves ? "Unknown File Type"

And how about the emulators like VisualBoy and SNES9X official ? Running the boot.dol too causes my cube to hang

emu_kidid thanx much for your kind work ! And your SNES9X is very slick too !!!

Sounds like you're trying to use the Wii version of those emulators. Use emGBA and snes9x VM on the gamecube. VBA is unplayably slow anyway.
