Black and white video

Post by Seniorcelica » Sun Nov 19, 2017 5:08 pm

I installed a xenogc properly has orange led on power up. Had to do a pot tweak. My originals play properly with full color. My backup plays in black and white. I also have a region switch installed which made no difference. Thanks in advance

Sounds like your region switch is wired either wrong or shorting.
The switch is unnecessary with a XENO anyways as it makes the GC region free.
I recommend removing the region switch and retesting.

Are your "backups" from the PAL region?

Hold B while booting in that case. Most people say hold X/Y to force region although best results from holding B and forcing 60hz.

Did you try forcing 60hz?

Shouldn't. Have you tried to boot up while holding X/Y?

Maybe your wavebird lag is a problem at boot. Try a different controller

Can't rule out the slight possibility. All wireless have lag, it's impossible not to, plus batteries could be low, dirty pins, stray solder bead causing miniscule disruption, ect..
Plausible, probable, anything is possible.

You have about 15 seconds during bootup to hold your buttons (the whole duration of the startup animation until it fades to black).

I have not had this luck. Wonder if something's wrong with my test cube now.

I don't have a xeno hooked up anymore, but the apploader (which is where the xeno does its magic) is executed once the GC is actually able to read from the disc, and when you have a backup inserted, that takes a while as it has to spin up twice.

One caveat is Xeno doesn't switch system language. Swiss settings can help the fussy games, or of course put the chip in a Japanese GC if need be.
Yep I've talked about that quite a bit. Not often witnessed, but it is an inherent technical issue.
50hz from NTSC consoles messes up composite and s-video color.

50 Hz on the NTSC AVE will result in PAL-N colors which need an appropriate decoder.

Does that mean you have a lead on finding what I doggedly asked for?

No you can't do that, it's not worth it at all when you can just get a PAL unit or use GCvideo. The easiest you can do is get a PAL-N TV. Why you would want to run games in 50 Hz in the first place is beyond me.

Well you made it sound like a PAL-N to PAL decoder exists. But that's way off topic.

Does (past tense if a DOL-001 with removed port) a component cable work correctly on your system? gcvideo uses the gamecube's digital AV lines.
