Hey,

so my gbi crashed a few times but generally works fine it is a different crash screen but when I played eternal darkness, and sonic adventures dx directors forced into 480p they each stopped with the "an error has occurred" message. I am wondering if this is a problem with my console, or something else. Thank you for any ideas you may have.

Try to play these games straight from the disc, you'll then see if it is because of the video forcing.
Do those games natively support 480i? (There are Pal games that don't offer Pal 60 compatibility, and forcing them to 480/60, i or p, may lead to crashes)

I ran the game normally and without forcing progressive scan. It still managed to crash on me. I will investigate with more games, and write back.

Super Mario sunshine works well.

Try to clean discs and lens, check if the discs don't show signs of "plate separation", it can be seen sometimes from the border, the metallic sheet shows irisation.

All right, thanks! I will check the discs for damage.

Yeah so for some unknown reason the games only messes up when I use them with a 128 MB memory card I recently purchased. I wonder was it a knock-off and that is why it is causing my games to crash?

128 MB aka 1019 block memory cards are known to be problematic with some games (official or not): https://www.nintendo.com/consumer/memorycard1019.jsp

Try a smaller memory card and see how you go.
