Unrelieable Action Replay disc

Post by Daman » Thu Jul 23, 2020 12:40 am

Hey guys, lately my Gamecube fails to read my Action Replay disc, it reads original games without a single problem every time, but with the Action Replay disc it either reads it once or doesn't read it period. I've tried carefully cleaning the lens, cleaning the disc iself but nothing. It's pretty bizarre it reads it once in a while but originals absolutely no problem.

Any ideas? Should I just get another disc?

Get another disc, they are known to be terrible quality. If it's easier you could also get a game that has a suitable save game exploit (or you might already have one).

Sorry for taking this long to reply, i'm not home.

I have both colosseum and XD but I don't have a wii so thats not an option for me. I'll just get another action replay I think.

You don't need a Wii, if your disc boots at least once you can do the necessary steps to set it up on a GameCube :P

How does that work? In the thread you linked it says that I need a Wii to install the exploit on a memory card.

I can't find a guide but I'll write one up at some point.

Basically here's what you need to do to have Swiss on the memory card. This guide is bad cause you're putting Swiss directly on the memory card and it takes up a bunch of space, ideally you'd want to put a DOL loader that looks on your SD device for another .dol to boot.

Requirements:
* GameCube
* Ability to boot Swiss
* Memory card 59 (251 required for Swiss)
* SD adapter

Steps:
1. Place the game save exploit on your SD card from here.
2. Place the .gci from the Swiss release archive onto the SD card as well.
3. Boot Swiss using your existing method (dodgy AR disc)
4. Enable file management in the settings
5. Navigate to the SD card and press A on the .gci files individually and select Copy. Select the memory card and copy them over. If Swiss crashes, try again.

Further steps:
1. Make sure you correctly set your save device in Swiss (via settings, page 1) if your setup has changed.
2. Replace the Swiss.gci with something better/smaller and have that just load Swiss from a SD device.
3. Place updated Swiss revisions on your SD and Swiss/whatever-loader-you-go-with-later can load them automatically on start up. Swiss expects boot.dol on the root of your SD card for updated versions.

Hope this helps, please ask questions if you have any.

I finally got the disc to catch and I did those steps, and it does work alright, what a huge relieve. Thank you very much, man.
Edit: I will invest in a XenoGC as I see this method getting annoying overtime, but for now, it's just what I need.
