Booting a GC without the disk-drive?

Google can't help me right now so i'm asking this question here.
I can't test this right now because i don't have a PSU

If no disk-drive is attached to the GC, will it boot?

You should read emu_kidids blog more carefully. He already said that he is working on a "non DVD drive version".

I plan to make games not require a DVD Disc in the drive (or at least spun down/laser off).

Yes it'll boot, the IPL will give you a "An Error Has Occurred" message, but apart from that it'll be fine. How various modchips will behave is independent for each, I know a Qoob Pro, when holding Y bypasses any DVD Drive checks so you can boot homebrew from the internal flash or over BBA.
