IDE-EXI FAQ

Post by emu_kidid » Wed Feb 02, 2011 11:27 pm

FAQ:
Q. What kind of ribbon cable is best?
A. Any Standard ribbon cable (40/80 doesn't matter) will do.

Q. Can I use a 2.5" HDD or SATA HDD with this?
A. Yes, through a compatible adapter. But be warned there may be a loss in speed.

Q. Will the adapter put any pressure on the memory card port or damage my console?
A. It shouldn't - because the only thing connected to it is a ribbon cable and the PCB is just the right thickness to not fall out of the slot.

Q. Can I turn my GC into a media player using this?
A. Not really - the Gamecube is pretty dated but there is a media player coming soon with IDE-EXI support for this device. When a media player arrives, check here for it: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewto ... f=23&t=331

Q. Can I use emulators with this?
A. Check this thread regularly: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewto ... f=23&t=331

Caution:
If the cable does not have a orientation tab on the top, you must be careful in which orientation you connect it to the IDE-EXI.

If there IS a tab, it must be facing up. I will post pictures shortly.

Also, when removing the ribbon cable, be sure to remove it by pulling it straight out, not towards one side, since you WILL bend the connector pins.
