Vizio HDTV Problems with 240hz and 1080P HDCP

Post by ar15mex » Sat Jun 18, 2011 4:03 pm

Hi all,

I've been serching over the internet about this particular issue, but I can find the solution anywhere. So let's try my favorite forum. :D

Recently, I obtained a 240hz vizio truled HDTV at Sam's Club (Model XVT473SV) that complies with HDCP. I also bought a certified HDMI cable of the same brand (Vizio) with HDCP Compliance, but when I put games like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood or Call Of Duty 4 on my PS3 system, the resolution switches from 1080P to 720P. According to the back of the box it says that your TV must support HDCP (In this case it does) in order to obtain 1080P. I don't understand what is the problem.

The model that I have is for my PS3 is CECHA01 (first Version). Does the first PS3 does not support HDCP?

Another, question that I have is the refresh rate. My TV supports 240hz, but when I put the games on the top right corner it says "59hz 720P". Is supposed to say "240hz 720P" or something like that right?

I hope there is enough information to address my questions. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks :D

EDIT: Some grammar Stuff

Sounds like a dumb question, but have you changed the ps3 display settings?
Second question, what kind of cable are you using? hdmi?

I don't know your television, but it is possible that it shows the input refresh rate, which is in this case 60Hz or 60fps (frames per second).
It then adds interpolated frames to get 120Hz and then flashes the backlight to achive 240Hz. (background information: http://www.hdtvetc.com/education/explai ... php?page=2)

The Ps3 is setup at 1080P, and yes... it is a HDMI Cable 1.4a

regarding the input of the hertz... I will take a picture from the tv to see if it shows the fps instead of the hz... and thanks for the link...

Okay, your TV supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p and so on (http://www.vizio.com/xvt473sv.html#techspecs).
Your cable is good, too (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_1.4).
The game Assassin's Creed Brotherhood supports 1080p, 1080i and 720p.

But 1080p is not the native resolution of this game, so it will run at the native resolution of 720p, if you have selected that in the ps3 settings.
When you disactivate the 720p option and only leave the 1080p option, it will be upscaled to fit this resolution.
But it wont look any better then, cause the ps3 has only a software upscaler, so you can leave it as it is now and let the tv do the upscaling.
Some games start up in 1080p with activated 720p option:
Final Fantasy XIII for example starts up in 1080p, because the pre-rendered scenes are in this resolution and will be displayed natively, but the game itself is in 720p and will be upscaled as well.

Important: When you disactivate the 720p option, all games that dont support 1080p will be downscaled to 567i.

Hope this helps.
