Thank you for taking the time to try it.
About the gamers, I will test some more in the next couple of days.

If/when a new nightly comes out, would you like me to focus on specific games in particular or should (GASP) tried them all again? :)

specific will do. the changelog http://code.google.com/p/swiss-gc/source/list will usually say if it's something specific like speed increase for FMV's etc vs compatibility. If it's a compatibility fix, just try games that didn't work/etc.

Hi, I have been testing more games. I don't want to open several treads so I am going to ask here:

1-PAL forced to NTSC
I have a PAL TV that can do both 50 and 60Hz and I was experimenting with RE1 PAL.
When I forced it to NTSC, the image on the TV went out of sync and started rolling vertically.
When the game asked if I wanted to force 60Hz I said "yes" and the image stabilised immediately.

So, just for the sake of curiosity, the question is: what were you forcing in the first place?
In any case, image sync with PAL50, PAL60 or NTSC (still 60Hz) should have been the same.

2-Non-standard memory card bug (http://code.google.com/p/swiss-gc/issue ... d=63&can=1)
I am still seeing this pretty much on every game.

If I boot the GC with a third party memory card in, the game will complain that the device in slot A is of the wrong type.
If I remove it, wait 5-10 seconds (or use the reset button if the game supports it, like Mario Kart) and try it again it gets accepted.

3-Fixing/32k aligning
Does the use of fstfix make any difference in terms of improving FMV smothness/audio stuttering when loading a game from SD Card?

Unfortunately sometime the disappearing stuttering is replaced by FMV frames flashing/tearing. :)

Swiss was forcing NTSC, which is a different signal than PAL60, despite the similarities. If you had a rolling image, that's either because your TV doesn't support NTSC, or because you're using composite (or RF), which can't carry the signal in a way that your TV understands.

The game didn't ask you if you wanted to "force" 60Hz. It was asking you if you wanted to change the video mode to PAL60. It's not forcing if it's a native option.

Your reasoning is flawed, here is why:

1-The Gamecube is connected to the TV through an RGB scart connector (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART) and yes there are actually all the wires needed, not just composite+audio.

2-The majority of my games are NTSC-U*, I have a minority of PAL games and only because they support progressive scan out of the box.
All NTSC games always display properly, either when I run them using Viper+Cobra (which allows me to force its menu in NTSC no problem), or when I run them using Swiss (even forcing NTSC instead of AUTO).

The exception is a PAL game forced to NTSC with swiss. The TV should be able to handle it, but it doesn't. Unfortunately being an analog TV I cannot check what vertical frequency it gets as an input.

* I bought NTSC-U games because they can do progressive scan easily and I was using a modified digital component connector to output the signal to a VGA monitor.

Edit:
I have just noticed that:
A) The image rolls with R253 and not with R174.
B) Even if the image is rolling, if I decline the offer to switch to 60Hz, the game still has the right colors.
This should mean that the TV correctly shifts the NTSC color information from 3.58 to 4.43 MHz.

Tell me more. I've never seen documentation on the Gamecube's color encoding.
I just assumed it was hardcoded into the video DAC, no such thing as a software toggle between NTSC and PAL60. :?

Have you successfully launched any game? What error do you get, black screen, or do you see something from the game and then it freezes?

Reason I ask is because if you're using the SD Media Launcher disc and/or the SD card slot that comes with it, you will have issues. The solution is to swap out the disc or don't use a disc at all and to modify the SD card slot to make better contact.

included a change log into the distributions..

the information in the change log is pulled directly from googlecode SVN.
the contents are specific only to the particular distribution revision..

example:
swiss_r255-changelog.txt will only list the specific changes for r255
swiss_r256-changelog.txt will only list the specific changes for r256
etc...etc...etc...

Hi, recently i've modded my GC with Xeno and soldered SD card reader to mobo (directly into slot B) - everything is working fine but in some games I can't save game :/ Memory Card is present in slot A, I'm using Swiss 0.3 r256. I can't save in games like Pikmin, Resident Evil or Soul Calibur 2. Those games says that my MC is corrupted and need to be reformatted. But when I choose "Yes" next error appear "Can't format MC". My MC is fine, i can copy, delete save files in GC menu (or even using GCMM).

This is a new one to me - Is it a 3rd party memory card? Try re-inserting it after the game has started, what happens then?

My MC is "Speed Link Gamecube 4Mb/59 blocks Memory Card". Removing/Instering doesn't help. Those errors appers in both Fast/Compatible SD modes with dvd disc in drive and motor stop. BUT i've checked them using swiss 0.2 and everything works fine - I can save...

BTW. Wehre can I change settings like "Patch mode/location" in 0.3? In 0.2 Those setting are in Settings menu but in 0.3 I can't find them.

0.3 only has one patch type, no need to change it, I'd rather fix games in that one patch type, I'm trying to simplify it to a point where you'll just boot the thing.

I'll take a look at the memory card issue, haven't tried any of those games as of late.

Soul Calibur 2 confirmed working from SD Gecko in SlotB with memorycard in slot A..
new save file created in process ( did not have existing save file on this card )
save data accessed and loaded after reboot with duplication of issue...

i suggest trying a different memory card...
i only had an official memcard available for testing..

You've confused us all, are you trying to EMULATE a memory card in Slot A using the option Swiss provides or are you trying a physical memory card? Changing SD card shouldn't make any difference.

why test with a different version swiss when i have already verified the issue is not swiss related and not duplicated with r256...
please provide more test parameters to attempt duplication of the issue.

also, did you download and test with the files posted in this thread or did you download r256 somewhere else and then come here for assistance?
this is important to know because there is another site that releases "half ass" release updates...

I've downloaded r256 from this thread (1st post).

But I've found a solution! :) I'm booting r256 from SD using Swiss 0.2 burned on dvd (this was first version of swiss that i've found) and when selecting SDGecko in 0.2 (to boot 0.3 DOL) i MUST select "Compatible" mode 'cause if I select "Fast" I won't be able to save in certain games.
