SD Card

Post by FC360 » Mon Mar 03, 2014 11:00 pm

I've checked the compatibility list on the wiki but am a little confused about SD cards for sdml and swiss. I am looking at buying a 8GB or bigger SD card purely for game backups, I don't trust my nephew with my discs, but I'm finding it a little hard to find a SD card that will work as I can't find 1 that is the same as any on the compatible list. I did find a nice cheap 16GB class 10 Sandisk SDHC card but I'm not sure if this will work as there's nothing about class 10 SD cards :(

Normally I would just go out and buy a SD card but I have 3 cards that I've tried with swiss and it didn't like any of them :( Can anyone recommend a SD card that'll work and is around £10? That's about $16 for you Americans :)

Are you using the SDML SD card adapter? That may be your problem.

I've used from 128MB to 128GB in Swiss and I've only had one card not work (it was a crappy 16GB that died a few days after buying it).

yes,,but it depends...

some of the manufacturers used thiner PCB than normal which creates contact issues...
a few layers of tape will raise the pcb 0.5mm or so which should allow better contact and less intermittent issues...

so, only if the device is acting up, give it a try to eliminate potential contact issues as the problem

So I decided to get a Wii key SD adapter for the other slot, since quite a lot of ppl have said the sdml card reader isn't that good, which plays the games I have on the SD card although for some reason it doesn't seem to want to save onto the thing so now I just need to figure this out :(

What do you mean by it doesn't want to save?

Swiss support for saving to SD cards in game is very broken at the moment.

Well when start up pikmin it says memory card is corrupt, I think I might be missing something as the back of the SD adapters packaging does go through some setup steps but it's kinda confusing to understand lol.

It's also proving to be a little hard to find information about the wiikey sd adapter as they seem to have a new website which isn't that fantastic and the search feature on gc-forever keeps saying it can't search for wiikey sd adapter as there are too many results lol

There is zero software/hardware out there that will allow a GameCube game to save to a SD card plugged in via memory card slot at the moment.

Some versions of Swiss 0.3 had started to implement it but I've broken it for now.
