[How to] Boot swiss from memory card (GameCube)

Post by Megacubo » Fri May 02, 2014 7:21 pm

Hi everyone I have a qoob sx chip and a BBA. Because I don´t want to burn a dvd for every swiss release and I don´t want to send the .dol file with BBA (because that force me to have a pc power on). I have success loading the .dol file from memory card.

All you need to do is download this dol file and install it to your memory card (use 107 blocks)
https://db.tt/gbQwD9MI

I use efal bios to load (previous burned in a dvd back in 2005), but i think it can be loaded from a AR

Maybe can help some other people :D

pd I have a original nintendo gamecube memory card 251 blocks (i don´t tested in 1019 blocks memory card)
pd2 sorry for my bad english
pd3 memory card have to be in slot b

Hmm, can I use it if I have just an ordinary gamecube chipped with Xeno?

If so, that's what I was waiting for a long time :), to have SWISS without booting from the DVD.

btw. is it safe to put MC into slot 1 and SD Gecko into slot 2 after booting SWISS?

btw2. what about this efal bios? like it changes the bios in GC or what?

btw3. I see your file is a dol file, is it safe to run it when I have save games on my memory card?

Ok, clear enough.

Still, If I boot SWISS DVD instead of this "efal bios", can I still use his solution?

Hello, sorry to resurrect probably a dead topic but how you all forgive me :)

I was just about to update my SWISS version and this topic came to my mind. Still, I have some questions about the whole procedure.

Ok, got the file. But, what does it do? Where should I put the SWISS version that I want to install to the memcard? And most important - can I use it for MC that already has some saved games? Just do not want to corrupt my MC.

Tried to find this "efal bios" on the net but failed - anyone has a working link where I can download it from please?

alzen, what is your setup, what are you trying to achieve. There's probably more up to date methods you can use so it's best to know what the current setup is.

Hi emu. My setup is very basic, regular PAL Cube chipped with Xeno. What do I want to do? Update my SWISS version but I would prefer to switch from burning mini-DVD with new version to put new version to Memory Card and burn some image to mini-DVD that will allow me to run it from memory card.

Guess it's the right solution but as I never used it - I had a few questions about the whole process, I asked them in my previous post here.

With a Xeno, the initial boot must be from a disc.
You should be able to subsequently use the Swiss mini DVD to load other versions of Swiss, from any media it supports.

Yes, I tried running SWISS from SWISS already but wanted to try different method this time.

Even just for fun, I am curious how to use this memory card way anyway.

Check out this homebrew. It can do things Nintendo doesn't allow, like move files between an MC and an SD gecko.

I think what he wants to do or to have is a dol on the disc which starts a dol on a Memorycard or SD card. Like the Action Replay Discs with the autoexec.dol
Own a couple PAL and JPN cubes. And three BBAs. Homeland and PSO I/II.

Hello guys and sorry to someone for this post as probably some of you will find it rude, but... come on!

First of all, did I ever ask about such stuff? Guys, I use GCMM since several years, I know it; and it's not related to any of my questions.

Here, I do not know where is this riddle you all want to solve? "What did alzen mean?" - I know, maybe my english is far from perfection :? but I guess that it shouldn't be a problem to understand my posts. Geez. ;)

Guys, in short; please forget about my post from 2014 near the top of this page as it was few years ago. I know what this topic is about. I just do not know:

1. Can I use this method if I have already savegames on my memory card?
2. Where can I find this efal bios megacubo wrote about here:
Megacubo wrote:I use efal bios to load (previous burned in a dvd back in 2005), (...)
Sorry for the tone of this post but every time I check here for some answers I get confused because it seems like one user tries to explain to others what do I want to know. Come on, I do not write in esperanto :|

I have a copy of EFAL at home somewhere, probably. I'll have a look around for it. It was the GCoS wannabe software :P

There are provisions to boot a latest version over an SD card in SWISS, try with boot.dol.
Check for the disc image in the GBI extras, it may help too.
