gamecube not reading wode but eject button works?

Post by shadowtuy » Fri Aug 16, 2013 12:53 am

I have solder the connection 3 times over and i get no response from GameCube each time. The both eject buttons works but no attempt to read the iso from game cube. I fallowed the guide from: http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6003 : Am i supposed to patch the wode or something? I am a newbie so forgive my ignorance. :(

need some more information for wode as its a little bit more complicated for first time setup..
does any part of the wode work with your gamecube?

when you say the eject button works, you mean an iso is loaded and you can read the title on the LCD..then press eject to confirm the title has been ejected?
if there is a title on the LCD, what is the name of the title and what device is that title stored? SD, USB, DVD??

The wode screen come on and loads .iso's and i can eject them using the the wii eject and i can use the gc eject making the gamecube say "reading disc." But the wode says "0 reads" and "0 kbs" and just sits there.

ashen's guide has all the correct information required to make WKF/WODE work....

...when you first boot the GC, go to the GAMEPLAY menu...do you see the linux.org banner or is the gamplay menu empty?

sounds like the lid switch is working properly too....
so it has to be a wiring issue from wode to GC ...

can you take pics or make a video or both?

that wiring between the wode main board and the wode lcd board...
the ffc cable (aka wiring) looks a little stressed and oddly bent....

ive seen this exact same behavior because from not enough slack in the cable or the cable was bent just a little too much which caused the zero reads .... play around with the placement of the lcd board and find a sweet spot....

hmmm...looked at the video again...you might want to check the placement of all 3 of those boards and also the cable length might be a bit too much....

im not talking about the long wode cable because the wode has been confirmed working with its own supplied cables...but it does play a factor due to the overall length of the entire cable run from SD card to mainboard....
so, the problem could be before the wode because those wires to the adapter and the adapter to the wode are extra signal loss....

if i had to guess your total cable lengths:

Code: Select all

w/long cable

~150mm wires from GC to FFC adapter board
+
~100mm ffc cable from FFC adapter board to Wode mainboard
+
220mm ffc cable from wode to wode
-----------------------------------------------------
~470mm total cable length

Code: Select all

w/ short cable

~150mm wires from GC to FFC adapter board
+
~100mm ffc cable from FFC adapter board to Wode mainboard
+
70mm ffc cable from wode to wode
-----------------------------------------------------
~320mm total cable length

both these lengths are over the total length of cable supplied by wode
70mm + 220mm = 290mm total cable length

It is a wiring issue between the data lines, the commands to READ are not going through to the WODE properly. Re-check, I know you say it's been checked more than 3 times, but check again for the following:

1. Cold solder joins - try to gently pull each wire and see if it comes off.
2. Shorted points - check each pin on each side for shorted points.
3. Continuity - check each pin on either side and make sure it connects all the way through.
