Orange ntsc-j GameCube + wasp + region switch

I just bought a Japan GameCube if I do a permanent region switch will I need to set wasp for USA or for japan? I would think to set it USA since there's no difference between mobo but that resistor.

Set the wasp for USA.

Why reduce Japanese game compatibility?
If you have a modchip the only in-game benefit to this I'm aware of, is playing US or JP versions of Star Fox Adventures in English. (until a language cheat is written)

Unless there's some other effect I've overlooked.
