He gave an update over a month ago, saying there was about a 10 day delay. I don't think a single tweet is much to ask for when people have already paid in full well over 2 months ago...

RetroRGB's weekly podcast said they contacted him and said there was still a manufacturing issue. Shit happens sometimes. Although I agree we should've heard it from Badassconsoles and not RetroRGB.

This is just speculation, but I'm wondering if the flex cable is having interference/rfi issues. I use a flex cable in my design, and I ended up having to shield the cable. Without shielding perfect 480p was sporadic.

The 54 Mhz clock from pin 2 may cause interference, but megalomaniac is pretty knowledgeable and has been developing for quite some time now. On top of that it is a known issue and I believe he said it was due to the manufacturings standard not being up to par...multiple times ao I doubt his design is at fault.

Favourite mod: GC Loader flashed with latest swiss.
Eagerly awaiting a normal, form-factor wise, wireless controller with rumble. :)

The 54Mhz isn't cause the interference, thats the line we are trying to keep clean. He didn't say anywhere it wasn't manufacturing not being up to par. He simply said interference across flex1 & flex3 was causing signal degradation. He said that would add 10 days, its now been 30+ days. I think his design is very good; Im not knocking. I'm just saying in my experience, when I used an un-shielded flex cable I had issues. That is all.

Actually it goes both ways - you want a clean clock signal to sample everything else with and you don't want that clock signal to interfere with the signals you are trying to read.

When I saw your pictures on Assemblergames I suspected that such a long flex cable might cause trouble.

As someone who spent a lot of time around mega, I'd put money on a "10 day delay" being something the manufacturer said to him. I've never seen any actual release dates or promises other than "soon" or "two minutes to midnight," because there are always a lot of external factors(like manufacturing) that can screw things up at any time. So that wouldn't necessarily mean anything tangible to count on, because they also were supposed to deliver the same quality flex as before, and they didn't. Remember, he had perfectly working flex on stream awhile back, meaning that it has nothing to do with the design.

I think it's safe to say that any delays up to this point are entirely related to that, and out of his control. I think he's more inclined to wait until things are more secure to tweet or release any additional information to the public. It sucks for us to have to wait, but it's gotta be hell for him.

I don't have a picture currently on me, I'm at work. But I'm using foil tape that is cut in a long strip wrapped around flex cable. I then wrap a layer of kapton around that, so nothing gets shorted on the main board. I looked into getting custom flex cables made but not really worth it (since the technique I'm using works perfect, and looks fine) for the price unless you are mass producing.

Not the Case for me. I get like 30 unknown devices and the workspace stays empty. I tried a Xilinx Programmer and the Impact Software from Version 14.7.
Is there any way to fix that? I already soldered a new Version of the Board but it has the same Issues as the old one.

I purchased the parts for a GC video lite 0.9 over a year ago but never had the the time to install it until today. Unfortunately, it doesn't work and I'm unsure how to trouble shoot it.

Here is what I did: I flashed th GC Video lite with a FlashcatUSB (used the precompiled firmware from github). Then I wired the GC Video directly to the AVE P DOL (I didn't connect the audio lines because I will be using analog audio: pin 19, 21, 22 are not connected) and connected the GC video to a Good Display 5.6" screen (which doesn't support 15kHz as far as I know) via VGA. When I boot the Gamecube I only get a composite video signal, which is to be expected if the screen doesn't support a 15kHz VGA signal (correct?). Afterwards, when I start Swiss, I neither get a composite video signal nor a VGA signal (the screen shows "no sync") on my screen. I suppose that is because Swiss switches to progressive video but the GC video somehow fails to generate a proper VGA signal.

I already checked the wiring with a multimeter and everything seems to be fine. How should I proceed?

Does the new GC Video from badassconsoles suffer from the same limitations (15kHz VGA signal that is not compatible with all screens) as the GC Video lite 0.9? How good is the compatibility of the HDMI version?

Does your multimeter have a frequency range? If so, try measuring the frequency of the VSync and HSync outputs on the GCVideo-Lite board.

Thank you. It almost works now. The firmware wasn't flashed correctly and two of the pins on the FPGA were shorted.

Now, the picture is shifted to the left:

VSYNC fluctuates wildly and is anywhere from 60Hz to 1kHz according to my multimeter. HSYNC is about 32kHz.
The picture sometimes slightly moves a few pixels to the left or to the right.

What should I try now?

HSync sounds ok, VSync probably is also ok since you get a stable image. Some multimeters are a bit too sensitive in the frequency ranges and read a bit of noise on the line as signal instead, which can result in the fluctuations you've seen.
What should I try now?
Try the auto-setup option of your monitor (if it has one) or the manual horizontal shift (same), try a different monitor and maybe also try to use the component mode of GCVideo Lite and a TV or monitor with component input.

Thank you. The screen uses auto-config already. I can move the picture to the right in the OSD of the screen but the settings are lost when I turn it off. Do you think it's possible to modify the firmware of the GC Video to send a modified picture that is shifted to the right? Would that be difficult to do? I was planning on using this screen in a portable GameCube. If you have any tip on how I could make this work, I would highly appreciate it.

I tried a different screen and it works there by the way. Component also works without issues on my TV.

It would work only for shifts of a few pixels, not for such an extreme offset as shown in your picture.

You can set a horizontal displacement from the cube's menu, but iirc it only allows about 16 pixels and isn't supported very well by homebrew.

i received the pluto board from andre and ran a few tests on my TVs. My test results were exactly the same...no TVs worked but a Dell monitor had no issues displaying video. I began to pinout the board and found some pins tied to GND ( SDA, DDCp, and HTP). There was no voltage going across the 100ohm resistor, 4.95v input compared to 30mA output.

since there were traces going under the HDMI connector i had to remove the connector to check the design. Once the connector was removed i verified all traces were correct as per typical HDMI pinout and no traces were tied to GND. Only conclusion left to assume was the HDMI pins were shorted at the factory during production. The short was not visible on inspection so it had to have been shorted under the HDMI connector out of eye sight. I resoldered the HDMI connector and tested once again on my TVs and all of them now recognize a device is plugged in and video is now displayed.


Granted this may have been one of those rare factory production screw ups, its still worth noting these Pluto HDMIs might not be properly tested before being sold. Sorry about your luck andre...

My Pluto had the same shit happen to it. Worked fine on a cheapo TV, but would not work on any HDMI switch.. the switch wouldn't see any signal. I checked that 5v pin you connect a 100ohm resistor to, and the fucker was shorting to ground. Removed from my GC, still shorted. Unsoldered the HDMI connector and boom no more short. Their QC is non-existent. Anyways, the pins are too fine for my soldering skills to re-attach the connector so fuck it. I'll wait for Megas.. at least he tests his shit :D

You can't solder .5mm pins? Align the connector, put some flux on there, add a small drop of solder and drag it across the pins with your iron. Keep on adding if you need to, then clean up with a wick. For inspection, you don't even need a magnifying glass, just take a photo with your phone (turn flash and hdr off to get stable focus), and zoom in. When you're done, clean it thoroughly with a toothbrush dipped in acetone (better) or high concentration alcohol. You can use a hair drier on the cold setting to make it evaporate quickly.
