it's a custom connector, that's why it's so hard to get (you'd have to make it).

Haha... Well the medical plant I work at does a bit of injection molding. Make me a mold quick and I can bust out some connectors before they shut us down :P

when i get a chance, i'll get mechanical specs i'll be emailing a manufacturer to try to have them build the connector for us. they have access to millions of parts, and might be able to help. we'll see what they have to say..

was quoted a long time ago $2k by some people to just have the mold made - then pins+assembly+plastic costs on top of that.. (I might still have a PDF with measurements)

Looks like your little component is in fact a surface mount diode http://talkingelectronics.com/ChipDataE ... tlines.gif if you can make out the markings on top of it you may be able to find out what specs it has by googling it. Good luck emu

thanks Ashen, I'll pull apart my other Wode and have a look if I can make out the markings.

was just doing a bit of reading and found it interesting to find out that the WODE guys actually based their work off the documented develpment of the crazynation GC adapter. http://www.wodejukebox.com/history.php pretty err... crazy :D

Maybe, but credits goes where credit is due. and admitting in public that their work is derived/inspired by that other work is quite awesome, in my humble opinion...

we should ask some guys of benheck, they had been busy with the CZN HDD mod, and I think they also got those connectors manufractured.
and there is also some one who has a company wich manufractures this kind of stuff (he uses his machines to make his portable cases and makes stuff for 60 an hour)

Emu. Just in case you missed it over on the WODE forum:
TheGuru wrote:"D2" on the Wode slaveboarde is a protecion diode with part no. PRTR5V0U2X

here more info: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea ... -4140-1-ND

Also a few guys over there are trying to help us find the adapter we need to make this "plug and play"

i will ask some people in china

the male one does if you're looking at it from the side that will be sitting on the pcb (underneath side).

I had a thorough search for the PDF but couldn't find it. If someone else could measure up the connector to a certain degree of accuracy that'd be great :)

Also, I've ordered the repair parts. I'll port Wodeflow to Gamecube in the mean time ;)

sweet!

While i'm here, i want to mention something...

the female connector on the CPU board that connects to the optical drive is shaped like a brick, with a wide pin in the middle.

BeHoLd ThE AsCiI ArT!

Code: Select all

+--------------------+
| +================+ |
+--------------------+
the +===+ is the "blade" in the middle of the connector. on both side of that blade are 16 connectors. now, the gap between the center blade and the inside edge of the outer shell is 0.8mm. now you're all confused... why do i care? because we can have PCB that are just that thickness, and just "plug" 2 boards down the hole on each side of the blade. insta-gangsta supa-cheap connector replacement. the PCB needs to be 22mm wide to fit down the connector. the distance between the pins on the end is about 17mm or so (with 16 contacts in between). so if we have traces .5 wide, with .5 gaps in between exposed on the end of the board, we just need to hook up 2 boards, mount the SMT FPC/FFC connector on one of them, and celebrate! with enough quantity, it can be less than $10 per set ($3 for the connector i believe, and a little bit for the PCB itself, and 16 wires to interconnect the 2 sides. I'll send a picture later of a board i put in the middle (perf board...)

I hope this stupid thing makes sense... but that would get us over the hurdle of the connector (until someone can spend some money on manufacturing the connector anyway).

as for the dimentions of all the pieces of the connector, i'll need to find my digital caliper to make precise measurements...

thoughts?

And anybody got an extra WODE 2.0?

epoch, yes, I have thought of this 2x pcb method but I never liked a pcb which had other PCB's hanging off of it at 90 degree angles :P

If someone can make it though, I'm all for it :P

Just a side note; anyone tested a BBA with the WODE/Fusion already?
