you can?? great!! it would be nice if we could load swiss directly instead on the wiikey fusion menu and load our backups and homebrew directly from swiss. Would that be possible? I know you must be busy but have you had the chance to look at the menu code?

Anyone know where I can purchase some pcb pins in UK? then so I can solder on the molex.
It's next to the AV ports, you have take off the laser and metal cover?
Why you can't just bridge the P2 black / red wires and share off that before it reaches the board do two parallel 12V's off it then add a resistor for the 5V.

Little update on the status of my first 2 portables. Sadly it looks like I'm not going to have enough room in my cases to incorporate some of the features I wanted and were requested. Namely 4 player support and T.V. out support. There is just not enough space. I'll have to refine my design for the next batch if I want to incorporate these features.

Anyway. I'm still churning away on the cases. The good thing is I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel now. I have all of the front holes cut for the buttons and the L/R buttons epoxied in. I only have the double Z buttons, Speaker Holes, SD card slots and a few other little things to cut yet and I can start Painting. Yay!

I've also been forced to go with a 7.4v battery setup using Zenlocs custom reg because of space constraints. This isn't really a bad thing but will result in roughly 2hrs battery life. 1 hour less than I was shooting for.

On to some new pics!

Both cases mostly cut:

I think I can do most of it :p Infact I'm busy with one :D
But money is a problem... :?

@ashen how do you power your screen? Just with the 7.4v bats, or do you use another setup?

Sorry guys, was out of town for a few days and replying from my iPhone gets tedious after a while ><

You guys are very right. The price of buying one of these units seems very high. The few portablizers that make GCNp's and sell them usually list them around $1000 USD. The amount of work that goes into them justifies the high price point though. Especially when you consider that roughly half of that can be build cost (screens, batterys, GC, controllers, cases, custom regulators, etc).

Zenloc and myself are working on something behind the scenes that may allow us to produce them (possibly) for a good deal less though. We'll have to see if it pans out. If not, the price point mentioned above is what you could expect to pay.

Dragoon, The "dailian good display" screen I'm using can be powered off of as little as 5v. So yes a 7.4v battery would work fine.

Is the screen on the WODE necessary? Can all the same features be accessed through the GC without being able to see its screen?

I'm not sure I want to incorporate it into my design...

I think the screen is needed for switching discs in multidisc games

Ashen could you try a AR 1.14b backup and load a game with cheats on? (On the Wode ofcourse)
And does the wiidrive load backups with a wiikey soldered on it? (When connected to the gc)

First part, yes of course that would work.

No it does not for unknown reasons (possibly how their region patch is done).

That sucks, will it ever be able to load backups?
And has any one tried to put a wii dvd drive on a wiikey fusion? (I know it's kinda pointless but if it load backups then maybe we could ask the fusion guys about how they did it)

Well if the price is really low and you know wich side is the dvd side and wich side is the host side and how to pin it out,
I think it wouldn't hurt to give it a try ;)

I know not everyone here is interested in portablizing, but I also know there are some portable making lurkers around here and other who ARE interested so I figured I'd share.

I've put together a pretty extensive guide on gamecube motherboard trimming on the modretro forums. Here's a link for those interested:

I just now stumbled across this site and information about GC/Wii hardware combinations and I'm finding it very interesting (especially considering this stuff on hdd/sd game loading).

Among several current project ideas I have, I've thought about turning my Gamecube into a Wii (just for the aesthetics) by taking the Wii's guts and putting them in a GC shell. But I thought it would take a ton of modding because of the GC's odd drive configuration. BUT, if I can use the GC's drive and Wii's boards, that would save a ton of work. But I still don't know if this is possible (at least not for all games), at the very least because the GC's drive was not designed to read dual-layer discs.

To what extent are the drives really swappable/compatible with the other system's motherboards? I ask because I don't know what these other boards are in this thread, listed as Wiikey Fusion (the blue one) and WODE Jukebox (the onyx colored one). Are they a necessary intermediary for Wii Drive <-> GC mobo (some kind of driver?), or are they for something else entirely?
