Questions regarding IPL, SD gecko, and harddrives.

Post by Air Conditioner » Sun Sep 20, 2015 5:38 pm

I've never really been able to understand a lot of what the YAGCD meant so I figured I would transfer my questions here.

• Can the IPL be overwritten? If not how come? And if it is could the IPL have code that boots Swiss from the SD gecko?

•what stops SD Gecko ISO emulation from being full speed?

•why is loading from the hardrive over SD gecko full speed but loading from an SD is not?

Please excuse me if any of these questions are stupid I just don't really get how most of the hardware works and I'm trying to learn it.

In order :
-Meow. :3 More seriously, that's what all modchips do excluding the xenogc, duoq and wkf/wasp/wode.
-A hardware bug, the one that leaks the IPL during boot, and the SD spi protocol being stupid.
-It's not for the same reason.

The reason I asked that is now that Swiss is bootable via the SD gecko through SSBM could the IPL be replaced on a vanilla cube so you don't have to go through the process every time?

No and no. The IPL is on a non writable chip, and a hardware bug is impossible to fix.
