simple question about an LED mod

As my first modification on my gamecube, I want to add some LEDs.
I read somewhere on the internet that I "shouldn't buy Ultrabright LEDs, as these will start draining power from the gamecube"
Is that a thing? I want to add one LED on each controller port, and just swap the one existing LED of the console.
