Best firmware of Wode

Hi guys, for thse that have Wode in their Gamecube, which firmware do you use? I find firmware 2.9 to be a bit slower during initialization. Also does anyone know how to change the bmps in the mini-display? There is a program called wode bitmap customizer but it crashes in Windows 7. Thanks for the info guys.
