Fan replacement

Post by sd_dracula » Sun Nov 22, 2020 9:40 am

Is there a 50mm Noctua fan I can easily replace on the GC?
Don't mind soldering if needed (pretty sure it is) and I can 3D print the mount myself but not finding a noctua one on Amazon, only 40mm and 60mm.
I am seeing nothing but bad reviews on noise and life for the Noiseblocker XS-1
Any suggestions?

Noctua doesn't currently produce a 50 mm fan, but should be coming in 2021. The alternative is the Fractal Design Silent Series R3 50 mm.

Hmm 35db sounds quite loud but then again the stock one is super loud too.
I wonder if I stick one of those noctua ultra low noise adapters that I have laying around, will it drop the speed/dbs?
Definitely do NOT need 3500 rpm on a GC fan haha

There are 2 revisions of the stock fan, the latter of which is much quieter.

Where did you get 35 dB from? The specifications say 19 dB.

Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fractal-Design ... 410&sr=8-1
On the official page it does say 19db you're right: https://www.fractal-design.com/products ... 0mm/black/
Do you have this installed is it actually 19?

Don't remember from when I last opened the GC, is the fan 3 pin of 2 pin? i.e. Do I need to just connect the black/red cables of new fan to existing cable?

Too bad it's not black

I don't have any custom fan installed. It is a 2-pin JST connector.
