GameCubeMini Prototype worklog

Post by LOCtronicz » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:26 pm

Ok I've been planning for my new mass produced gamecube project. Named the "GameCubeMini". Now before I start mass production I'm planning on making a protoype which is an already bought commission by D Hell from the Moddedbybacteria forums.

Project will include:

Gamecube + custom regulator
IBM Thinkpad heatsink with fan (running off 3.3v)
Wiikey Fusion + SD slot
2x 3.7v 5000mah li-polymer cells (7.4v 5A)
Internal 7.4v charger (1.2A)
5" Dalian Good Display
Sound amp with digital control + speakers
Built in 256mb memorycard (switchable 128mb memorycard for pal/usa and jap)
Built in sd gecko
Headphone jack
AV out jack
Original Power jack
4x Controller ports

Controller will exist from the following controller parts:
Wii Classic controller (analog shoulder buttons only)
2x 3DS analog sticks + custom nub
NDS Lite action buttons + dpad
2x Custom Z buttons

Color of the portable will be matt black. When all the parts have arrived I'll post pics of construction.

Actually, I imagine A LOT of people will pay him that amount in advance. Its a damn good deal. I can vouch for Zenloc being an excellent modder and portablizer and also a trustworthy person. He's done a ton of commissions for people already and his work is always top notch. I believe he has his facebook page in his signature, there which you can see some of the work he's done. Or you can check out his latest masterpiece, the "gamecube pocket" on modretro here: http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6398 if you browse the pages of that thread you can see his latest work. This is roughly a 25% discount over what he will be charging when he goes into this full swing. I'd jump on it quick if you are interested in one of these, I doubt it will take him long to fill all 10 slots.

Just sayin :D

Yeah, but I want some pics before I decide to pay >700 Bucks
It's not worth it to pay so much money in advance only to find out, that the product is not the kind of portable console I was looking forward to.

Edit: Ok I found some pics here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 048612195a
It looks neat, but not enough for me to pay a huge sum in advance. I'll more probably get one of your awesome Gamcube Fusions :P

Cubelover - we had this discussion before and you were ranting in the other thread too
I think it's extremely rude of you to blame him for asking for 750$

choose your words wisely young padawan
please search before you ask - a lot has been discussed already!

I was ranting? Sorry but can you enlighten me?
Also read my post again Mr. moderator, I didnt blame anybody, I was just sayin that nobody is going to pay $750 in ADVANCE for a product that isnt finished yet. That was an opinion I am entitled to, not a ranting. See the difference?

@Cubelover, I can understand your opinion but I think you should keep it to yourself instead of posting in this thread.

There was someone who posted on racketboy who did a custom Wii with integrated Wode and Wode logo. It was a work of art and a commission for someone. When he finished, the buyer skipped town. Apparently he didn't get any sort of deposit which is unfortunate.

@zenloc, good luck with your project.

not worth it? how do you know? let him charge as much money as he wants for it. if you don't want to buy it, well don't do it.
i guess he won't change his mind because of your opinion.

No, I dont have a reason to not post my opinion in this thread. That's what threads are for.

I don't care if you think my words were rude. They weren't. But since my words were directed to the OP, lets find out, what he thinks before jumping to conclusions like you did.

Apparently you don't understand the point here. Nobody with common sense will pay such a huge amount of money in advance for something that she/he doesn't know how it will look and function like. If you want to pay this sum in advance, then do it, but dont whine if the device doesn't suit you.

I was providing the OP with an advice to at least provide some pics or a video such as Ashen provided some for his Gamecube Fusion. Nothing wrong about it. Got it?

@ Ashen Thanks!!

Wow hahaha seems this thread is getting a bit off track. This thread in not about posting opinions about my project really. If you don't want in then don't reply. This is called a commission. Meaning you pay before and get what you pay for after. I have done plenty of portables before and have good thrust worthy feedback on modretro, benheck and moddedbybacteria forums which are the biggest retro modding forums in the scene.

If you do no trust my modding skill to provide you an awesome portable then you shouldn't take this offer. Most people that know me know that I will create something fantastic. But I do apologize if I wasn't clear on showing my work. I hoped the link in my signiture would be enough but I've added all albums of my work to the first post. Various models have been multiplied before so I know what I'm doing.

Note that I have done many commissions where people pay me above $1000 in advance so $750 for a group project isn't that bad. The quality of this portable however will far exceed my previous work due to the detailed case work it's going to get. As for a design concept it is a surprise but will look similar to other portables I've done. Check my facebook page for more info.

actually I am in the making of one to show everybody what it's going to look like. It's going to be thinner and smaller than Ashen's gamecube fusion, have internal batteries and internal charger.

Case design can be found on my facebook page in my first post. You can already see what the basic shape is going to be. As for effects it's goin to have a gamecube logo cut out the back just like my gamecubepocket (also on facebook) and have the same air vents designs.

More than that I can't really tell you. In time I will have to show you but again it comes down to if you trust my modding skills. I have made plenty of portables before which have gotten a fantastic welcome in the modding community but I understand if you don't wanna fork out so much money to someone you don't know.

So it's all up to you.

The charger is going to be internal zen, you mean the 120v or 240v step down converter will be in the portable?

Nope the actual li-polymer charger that is powered of 110v-240v. That means that when you connect a regular (in this case original gamecube power brick) to the power port it will be able to charge the batteries and power the portable at the same time. I modify the power connector so that when you insert it it cuts of the batteries to the console and send it to the built in charger. that way the batteries and power source never power the gamecube at the same time. This is very important and also reduces the need for a 3 way switch.

The thing I dislike abouyt most of your projects that it doesn't contain the memorycard slots, besides that your portables own!

Keeping those slots just makes things to damn big. Especially when you're trying to make things as small as possible. :/

Thanks for the comments.

I don't need the original memorycard slot. As I have a switchable 128mb memorycard for jap and us/pal games and a gecko sd slot wired on slot B which is also modified to work as a regular memorycard slot with my adapter I made. That way I can copy all my saves from my original memorycard to the built-in memorycard.

Already thought of all options ;)
