Interest check: Flashed ATMega 8Ls/Cheap XenoGCs!

Now that the XenoGC source was released (http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewto ... f=15&t=439), it's pretty easy for anyone with the required hardware (STK500 or similar) to use a standard ATMega8L microprocessor as a GameCube modchip. As I own an AVR programmer, I recently installed one in my Cube and it's working just nicely :)

As not everyone happens to have an AVR programmer, I thought about selling pre-flashed ATMega8Ls for a very(!) low price. If I order the chips and packaging in bulk, I will probably be able to send them from Germany to every country in the world for around 5EUR (~7USD) total. I can also include flexible wires (for free) and Swiss on a Mini DVD-R (+1EUR).

All in all, this is the cheapest way to mod a GameCube :D It's also fairly easy to solder to the legs of the chip, and it fits nicely inside the GC case. I also talked to liquitt already and he offered to sell the flashed chips at the European web store. Please reply if you're interested or have any additional questions :)

have you got images or a video of one of these working?

It will work just like the original xeno...but you will have to use wires to install.
You may even add the leds. ;-)

It works exactly like a real XenoGC. A video of a GameCube booting a DVD-R would be boring :) So here is an image of the chip itself:

This is how you connect it to the drive:

Does pin 1 connect to anything? I would be interested in a few of them for that price.

I dont think that it will work. cause you need a 5v connection and the red line has only 3.3v. maybe you can use another point with 5v from the controllerports maybe.

Plus someone said it here in the forums that the atmega8l works with 3.3v but I don't find the post atm... I thought it was in the xeno source topic, but it's might be somewhere else...

nice, I havent tried it cause the datasheed says that the dip version needs between 4,5V-5,5V. now its time to search my old avr programmer and my old atmega controller.

hm i dunno i just looked at the datasheet and found this:

Operating Voltages
– 2.7V - 5.5V (ATmega8L)
– 4.5V - 5.5V (ATmega8)

L => "low voltage" ;-)

Yeah, you definitely need an ATMega8L or any other low power version that works with 3.3V :)

these seems like pointless discussion because if you say it works then it works why is everyone going on about it and voltage? :/ at the end of the day youv tested it and confirm it works so whats this debate about?

I have used the ATMEGA8 and it works fine (it what I had on hand from another project). You can find 5 volts above the CN101 connector (lower left of the drive board) labeled "A5V".
