IDE-EXI USB HDD

Post by WoodyWoodpecker » Sun Aug 14, 2011 1:07 pm

Sorry if the title is misleading, I couldn't find a short and accurate description for my question.
So here is the setup: I want to connect an IDE-EXI, a HDD and a PSU for the HDD with one IDE-Cable. (see attachment)
The PSU has a USB-port. Will I be able to connect the HDD to a computer via USB (for adding files etc.) without frying
the EXI (GC is off, EXI is not inserted into memory card slot but still connected to IDE-Cable)?
I plan on putting all that stuff into an old gameboy player case.

The "host" device (IDE-EXI / the adapter you have with USB/etc) must go on the end which has the single connector, so no, you can't connect both I don't think... might be worth a shot but I could be totally wrong. About frying the IDE-EXI, I don't see how you could, all the pins/etc should be valid voltages unless you connect it upside down then perhaps (but again, nothing too dangerous is going across the IDE connector voltage wise)

That's a nice solution there!
Let us know how it turns out. What make is that part exactly?

Was planning on planning on an external swap-case mod myself, removing USB from an old case.
