Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
I've been kinda quiet over here lately, mostly just because I'm super busy with life and work. I've also been working on my first real commission though, so I figured I'd share my progress in detail so far.
I've made quite a bit of progress so far so here's lotsa huge pics.
Case front at the start of the project, everything is frankencased in with a few coats of primer over top and sanded to make sure things look nice and smooth:
Start of the work on the back of case:
Motherboard trimmed and ready to be wired, Wiikey FFC wired and ready to go:
Heatsink is trimmed, ready to mount fan:
Case is 99% ready to be primed then painted. The rest of the holes are cut for switches, expansion ports, SD cards, etc. A little bit of the layout of the components is also shown:
Sanded the L/R triggers real nice and got the first coat of paint on em:
Sidewall retainers installed and ready, I have to superglue the nuts to the bolt holes still:
Couple shots of the case all closed up:
Case Painted! Got it pretty much perfect the first time this time with the help of some spray painting advice from Hailraizer and a bit more ocd primering and sanding beforehand.
I've been getting a bunch of the electronics wiring done the past few days. Made some decent progress.
Motherboard is all wired up and tested 100% working, it looks a bit messy but I'll clean up the wire mess once its mounted in the case:
Batteries are wired and ready:
Custom regulator is all wired and ready. For those who don't know, most portablizers replace the GC's standard regulator with these much smaller and more efficient Texas Instruments regulators.
Controller board is wired up:
Mario's low battery indicator wired and working, also in pic is the audio amp I'm using:
Heatsink/Fan ready to go:
Still lots to do. Making nice progress though. Let me know what you guys think!

Looks really amazing, well done
Re: Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
You put all of our (at least mine ) portable attempts to complete and utter shame
If I didn't have a portable from you already I'd definitely be commissioning you for something like that Highly recommend it to you guys who are considering it, Ashen does very good work (I don't need to go on any further, it's obvious!)

Re: Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
Thanks everyone!
Lol, just because I am OCD about my cases and such doesn't mean that everyone has to be. My stuff is not perfect by any means, but I do try to do as nice a job as I can within reason. Hand built portables/mods are awesome in general whether they are beautiful, or not so much. In the end, its the functionality that matters. I love to see other peoples work either way.

Re: Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
Going to try to close this up tonight or tomorrow morning provided I don't run into any unforeseen issues.
Just need to wire the stuff from the separate case halves together.

Looks really nice Ashen ,,
Re: Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
This ones all done! Here's some craptastic pics of the finished unit, my camera wants to make everything dark and blurazy tonight for some reason.
Unit is 100% done, tested, etc, etc. Sans the L/R decals and the logo decal I'd like to apply:
I'm not 100% sure about it though, what do you guys think?
This one is real similar to the Revolution in every way, I tweaked out a bit more battery life in this one somehow though. 3 hours and 40 minutes!
Features:
Custom Vacuum formed case, slightly frankencased.
Dimensions: L: 9 3/16" H: 4 5/8" W: 1 1/2"
Weight: 1.835 lbs
5" Dalian "Good Screen"
Wiikey Fusion - GC lidswitch included for multi disc game support via the SD swap method.
AlmostWTF cut GameCube motherboard (onboard audio pre-amp retained) + Trimmed official GC heatsink with Tchay's netbook fan @ 5v
6x 2600mah Lithium-Ion Batterys (7.4v 7800mah total) = Roughly 3 hours and 40 minutes playtime. System is wired to "play and charge".
Zenloc's custom regulator: CPU=1.5v GPU=1.7v 3.3v and 5v all regulated separately for maximum battery life.
Official GameCube controller with rumble relocation, iPhone 3GS rumble motors, fully functional L/R "triggers" via the dual tact mod.
Internal 128mb Memory card on slot "A", Internal SD Gecko on slot "B". Save game transfer possible via external adapter.
iPod/iPhone audio amp with DSLite speakers + switching headphone jack.
Mario's low battery indicator circuit. Active @ ~30 minutes left.
Audio/Video out via custom A/V cable
2 player support! Switchable player 1 between internal and external controller port.

Re: Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
one thing ive never understood about all the work you do.....how do you keep your workbench so clean??

Re: Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
So tidy. Congrats on another great build. Hopefully my next one can come close to the standard you keep setting.
Re: Commission for Gintoki - GameCube Fusion Rev. 2
Usually the only times my workbench is clean is at the beginning and end of a project. 99% of the time there is crap strewn everywhere and I cant find anything.megalomaniac wrote:one thing ive never understood about all the work you do.....how do you keep your workbench so clean??

Ha. That's cool. I used to do vacuum forming when I was in school. Never thought about doing it in the house tho. Good job.

Made up a nice little information video for Gintoki. Its nothing very exciting, but I thought maybe some people would enjoy a closer look at this.
