Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
A creative solution which is looking very good on top!
Only thought WKF with original GC-Drive (passtrough) isn't working, not to mention audiostreaming?

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
Benni, both these boards will provide the solution to your goal, just remove the mainboard dvd port, solder in the DVD Replacement Port to connect your wode...then use the DVD Drive Insert to connect the wode to your DVD drive..
even if you use wireporn to connect a wkf/wode to the mainboard, the GC DVD drive will conflict if its connected using the original ports...this is why the original drive port needs to be removed...this is the reason for developing replacement adapter and insert adapter

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
Great idea! GC drive passthrough, clean and easy for maintenance. Would love to have a set of two of those for a WODE install.

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
i had great initial testing to confirm the following:
1. DVD Port Replacement pinout / design is accurate and works as expected with WKF....(wode is on order and will arrive next week)
2. DVD Drive Insert pinout / design is accurate and works as expected when plugged directly to the replacement port.
based on the success of these initial tests performed thus far, this project will is evolving as expected...
at the moment, i only have one ffc cable and not able to connect all three at the same time...once the wode arrives i will have another ffc cable available to continue further testing and confirm final results...

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
still playing around some more...
ive managed to update my WKF from 1.0 original firmware to 1.5 and flash a failed swiss, recovered WKF and reflashed swiss again....
so far this adapter is fully functional in all aspects...
my wode is expected to arrive Friday Nov 9 at which time i will have the extra ffc cable i need to continue testing....
i must say, this is working super great with no errors so far...
i cant wait to have the final production version on hand...

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
making some progress with WKF:
i can sometimes get a screen on the main WKF window which says RUN GC/WII disc or iso or something like that...
ive learned when the WKF is connected the drive will spin as long as there is no SD card in the WKF slot...
also, saving settings to WKF ON/OFF does not affect the WKF, meaning i can successfully save it as OFF...power down and power back on...go back into configuration and the settings will be saved....
ill have to work on this some more to get the right pattern sequence..but its looking hopeful
if anyone has a WKF and WII connected together, i could use some info on typical behavior of the WKF for loading discs

Re: Plug and play drive replacement adapter Idea
WODE!!!!!!
not much to say about wode, it just work....
here is a quick pic of my testing conditions....
yea wires.....why? because i am not gonna drill 0.5mm holes x 32
so i made a larger version of the replacement port design that has the exact same layout and connections....but a lot easier to make at home and easier to work....
so ignore the wires as they will not be required for production version...
the blue wires are are from the mainboard to the DVD REPLACEMENT PORT ADAPTER
the orange wires are wode power...note: all required wode power available on the DVD REPLACEMENT PORT ADAPTER (12v not required)
FFC cable from DVD REPLACEMENT PORT ADAPTER to WODE MAINBOARD
FFC cable from WODE MAINBOARD to DVD INSERT under the GC drive
red cable 5v power to GC drive
disc is spinning, initialized, and ready to play...
STATUS:
WODE VERIFIED, READY FOR USE!!!
WKF still testing
edit: after thought...i need to go dig out a streaming audio title...
