Wii Linux finally set up

Post by emu_kidid » Tue Jul 17, 2012 11:22 pm

I finally set up my Linux on a Wii after I came across some cheap $17 boot2 bootmii Wii's.

I set it up to run debian squeeze and it's been going pretty great. I'm a bit of a linux n00b so it's not doing much at the moment other than running apache2 and vsftpd and ssh.

Any recommendations on what I can use it for? I've thought about email/ircd/etc but those would purely be for novelty. I'm thinking about making it do something useful, something I'd use almost daily perhaps - any suggestions?

I still haven't gone beyond setting up a samba server and using wpa for wireless.
Wouldn't mind using it just for that, a dedicated Wii as a file server and perhaps a terminal torrent client to help with my ratio on certain sites :)

you can use the Wii with USB HDD as network storage for your DM-500 recordings and epg data...
i also have a VLC script to transcode media to DM-500 format if you still use mpeg2
:)

...11w server....cant beat it!!

also a linux bin for "sharing" to you local dm-500 or a buddies compatible receiver..
if you need additional hardware or schematics, LMK

I've put the debian .elf in my /bootmii dir so I hit the power button and linux boots up ;)

still need to fix it to use a static IP addr though or fix the whole name resolution issues I'm having
