With off-tv play you can use a controller for your controller when you run backwards compatibility in your backwards compatibility.

Probably want to wait until HBC gets updated, it's a bit broken at the moment (and breaks everything that gets launched through it)...

Amazing! Tueidj, Do you think we will be able to use only the wiiu gamepad itself, without needing any other controls to play gamecube games through devolution?

Very nice; can you play via the Wii u gamepad rather than an extra controller?

nope. a message pops up in wii mode when you press buttons on the game pad.

Sounds like the Wii-U side of the system blocks input form the Gamepad, thus the message emu_kidid mentioned. So a no go for vWii mode. We can hope Nintendo enables it fully in a another update, till then it can only act as a display. :(

I believe it's the game pad popping up the message, but yeah, the WiiU would be blocking the input. It's pretty nice to be able to use the portable screen though even without input.

The people who think Nintendo will add gamepad controls for wii games in a future update are deluding themselves, the wiiu pro controller basically IS a wiimote+classic controller (minus pointing and motion sensing) and they couldn't be bothered making it work for wii games... the gamepad is not a bluetooth device (unlike the wiimotes), it uses a different host controller that wii IOS can't access and even if it could, the bluetooth stack is handled by the games rather than the IOS so it can't just be "patched in" without modifying every game individually.

Is it possible for Nintendo to add Wii U Pro controller support only?

Or even better,is it possible a custom homebrew solution from the scene?

This sounds plausible, but then how does vWii get access to the display on the touch screen?

It doesn't, it knows nothing about it. The video for the gamepad is like a seconday monitor connected to the GPU, it gets activated in WiiU mode before the switch to Wii mode.

I dunno, it was a pre-order bonus. It's not very good because it stops the pad from being able to charge on the stand.
