The problem with taobao is that most people outside of China can't buy from there. It would also be more helpful if you linked to actual listings rather than just mentioning the site.

I'm based in The Netherlands. What's the best place I can get some 8cm disks at a decent price?

If you could bear long time shipping, Chinese Taobao is a choice.

Cheaper than what I expected!

Comments seems to tell they are good enough to be read on unadjusted laser pot's gamecubes, can you confirm this?

I have got some new 8cm discs offered as Taiyo Yuden but I think they are fake. The mastering code is DVD-R 4S014.

My Plextor PX-716A detects it as AML. But the weird thing is my other drive ASUS BW-16D1HT detects it as TYG02. How can the same disc output two different media code blocks on different drives?

EDIT: Already toasted first 2 discs and will not try the 3rd. I will send them back.

Well, the Ridata mini DVDs, which are the best for the Cube. I would say the ridata ones are the original DVDs for NGC backups.
they are so rare in these parts of Latin America, that I found a Zelda TP in Portuguese, and I ended up adopting it as a Boot DVD. it is so old that it is not even read by Dolphin. it doesn't even pass the initial CGI, but it serves to boot.
I realized that the reader suffers much less with Ridata than with my cut full DVDs.

I have got these Emtec discs now: https://www.ebay.de/itm/323963185584

They have the MID OPTODISCR004. I have burned using an ASUS BW-16D1HT v3.10 but they aren't working either. I have reduced the the Laser to 50 Ohm, still no luck with them.

EDIT: I'm considering something like that: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B002TKI5O2/

But with 8cm diameter to punch full size DVDs. Do someone have experience with cutting DVDs?

Whats wrong with the Aliexpress ones? I have these and they work 90% of the time I would say which is great. These days I just burn Swiss discs for several NGC I repair and mod.
I also found an old Viper NGC case so that it can read full size DVD :D No idea how much that is worth now but I paid like 60€ back in the days...

Since 8cm discs are now in the middle of 2022 is 7.00usd a disc at least is it possible to use dvd-rw’s because though I’m still using games I burned in 2015 and still have one unopened pack of ridata dvd-r the sad truth is my qoob and viper consoles are dead well the dvd drive for backups at least.

The cheap inkjet 8cm discs simply don’t work and full size discs even top quality will work for a little bit I have found the disc motor just can’t handle the centripetal force and errors out usually on loading times.

The only discs that I found other then ridata that work are Sony brand 8cm discs if you find these discs stock up and of course if ridata buy them out!

I mostly use my wasp fusion cube anymore but once in a blue moon I like to take out my spice gc that has a qoob pro and gcvideo lite. Hopefully dvd-rw would be an option

You already killed two lasers with burnt discs, and the price per GB is so huge for those DVDs compared to SD cards and you want to go for RW that may kill lasers even more if possible to read them.

I don't see the plot.

Anyways, you asked, I answer: you may be able to grind 12cm discs down to 8cm, you have to make a tool to cut them perfectly round. The gc will support bigger discs so keep a little margin as they may be brittle on the edges go for, say, 9cm). After grinding, you may secure the layers' sandwich, melting the edges with a gas torch or any other precise heating device, maybe a big plumber's soldering iron.

Your fucking kidding right? Grind down a disc no that’s not an option I would rather hack a wii dvd drive to my cubes to use bigger discs. The sad truth is qoob and viper consoles will be stuck using Swiss with Sd gecko or sp2 or ide-exi. I have a wasp fusion GameCube that I made way back in 2014 which also has a Pluto 2x hdmi installed that’s my way of playing games now. I do own many real games that Why I keep my ipl modded consoles around

Bottom line dvd drives are obsolete for backups now and xeno is basically dead useless a warehouse of ridata dvds is found. Your missing the point of my post if we can’t get ridata that’s it there the only discs that reliably work your saying we can cut 12cm discs down to 8cm ok what discs? Even top quality discs don’t work only 8cm ridata so?

Xeno isn't useless, it allows any GC to use PAL SMS Save Hack. :P
I thought good layer DVDs were still around in 12cm format, only hard to find in the 8cm size.

Cubes are becoming scarce and prices are increasing, so even if we found a big stock of Ridata or whatever, using backups won't help the machines going on for very long.
