Recharable Nintendo Wavebird Mod with Statio NEED HELP/IDEAS

Post by Crosz » Thu Dec 04, 2014 4:30 pm

Hey Fellows,

i was thinking about a projekt to give the Wavebird an recharable batterie wich plugs into an Rechargestation.

While researching i found that some rechargeable batteries from Nyko fit into the Gamecube.
But that that isn´t exactly what i want.

I have this Dockingstation from Nyko (Actually made for an Wii U Pro Controller) and i got the battery pack (Wii U Pro Controller)

What i want do is to install this adapter into the Wavebird

so i can Plug the Wavebird into the Station and it starts recharging.

I was asking some german electrician guys and they said it is quite hard but it should be possible. They told me to build it like This:

They said i will need this Load Electronic:
Mini 5V USB Interface 1A Charging Board Module Charger For Lithium Battery
(http://www.ebay.de/itm/5pcs-Mini-5V-USB ... 19daed9257)

First i want to know if this is understandable and if it makes sence..
And then i want to ask if anyone knows a way to do this without the switch (wich is to stop powering on the Wavebird while charging)
And if anyone see an even better or easy way to do this i´d love to hear some ideas.

wavebird uses 3v power....3.6 might be within acceptable range so you "might" not need any of the voltage regulation...

why would you need that ebay charge controller if all the charging circuitry is already in the nyko base charger?

wavebird already has an on/off switch, just use two leads from the battery:
one from the battery to the switch to power on the wavebird
one from the battery to the charger adapter
when you plug the wavebird into the base, it will charge with the wavebird OFF as long as you have the switch off

have you seen this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/161492059006

Thanks for the fast reply :)

Well that sounds promissing.
I have seen this charging Station on Ebay but i find mine more aesthetic plus the batterie of the Wii U Pro Controller is known for a long life. (As far as i researched)
I think those guys i was asking just thought that the charging circuit is part of the Controller (Wii U Pro Controller)

1.So you say that the recharging circuit is into the Station?
2.If the Controller is OFF and pluged into the Station would it stop charging when its full? (i think that was the idea for this charge controller)
3.Well if 3.6V is too much, will i destroy the Wavebird by trying to connect the batterie? (Not a big problem i got alot of those)
4. And if 3.6V is too much will i just need the voltage regulation? (+ this consistors?)

I change the batteries in my WaveBirds every 6 months... Is this mod really worth the trouble ?

Well i don´t want to do this because i have problems with the batterylife or to improve the functionallity of the Controller.

There are 2 reasons for me to do this.
1. It would be quite rare/uniq (what i like) and imo it is very aesthetic.
2. I want to learn and see if can handle this.

And for it is no trouble at all. (especially if it is true what Mega posted before, that i just have to connect those 3 Parts)

i just looked up the wii u pro controller recharging instructions on nintendo website...
looks like the charge controller is built into the controller itself....
this means you will have to build a charge controller and fit that into the controller..
maybe also build the voltage regulation circuit if its required and fit that into the controller too...

will all this fit into the controller?

Well not the best news..

But i think that everything should fit into the controller since i dont need the space for the AA Battery´s. The Wii u Battery is atleast thinner.
All i got for the recharging circuit is the controller board (Ebay link) it is quite smal and should fit into the Controller.
I got no clue how much space the other thing would take.

It looks like the voltageregulator and the capacitors are really smal parts right?
Will i need another switch or is the Wavebirdone switch enough?
Do i really need the capacitors?

the wavebird switch should be enough...
i dont know how that ebay charger will work for your intended use...
and the capacitors might not be required at all.....

you really need to consider using SMD components if you want to make it all fit...

What do you mean with "SMD Components"?
I thought that board i mentioned ist made of SMD Components isn´t it?
And this "Voltageregulator LT1117" is looking like a really smal component?! (If i do need it anyway)
