Where to buy 8cm DVD-R/DVD+R GC-compatible discs these days

Post by liquitt » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:05 pm

I just had a look at amazon.de and they're not selling any of the good discs anymore.
I remember that i always used Memorex DVD-R 8cm...can't find them anymore.

Post links to shops that sell good 8cm discs! (preferably the ones with the RITEKG04 mediacode of course)
Also, let us know about your experiences with different brands etc.
please search before you ask - a lot has been discussed already!

Myself and some friends have had better luck with these than the Ritek G04 mini-dvds. They have better
dye that is compatible with the Gamecube and don't deteriorate over time.

The Media code is: CMC MAG AF1

CMC MAG is rubbish, real Ritek has RitekG04 as the media Id.

I've found the ones that state only 2x are crap and produce DRE's ie:TDK,
I've had no problems even with cheapass orange topped Advanced Media Limited aka AML as long as their 4x speed.

the german supermarket LIDL used to have a cheapass brand that i can't remember the name of and they were awesome. they worked on my indigo cube without tweaking the poti (set to ~480ohms), i'm afraid they dont sell them anymore

What colour is the dye? the ones I problems with are the slightly darker purplish ones.
The AML ones are 4S014.

I use Tuffdisc 1.4GB 4x DVD-R Mediacode: CMC MAG. AF1
works perfect here (poti set to 450 ohms)

I bought it at matrixx-media.com but it seems that shop no longer exist.

You can still find a few shops which sell these discs if you look at google for
tuffdisc 8cm or tuffdisc 1.4gb

I once had a batch of cmc media that worked. Only that batch. Full size though.

Not sure where the hatred for the CMC MAG AF1 comes from. I've bought 2 separate cake boxes that works great for me. Ditto for 2 friends of mine. Ritek also works well but I find the CMC MAG AF1 to have more stable dye.

I got 3 boxes of platinum printable mini dvd-r. Earlier I bought some of them and they were ritek (which worked well) and the new I got are CMC MAG AF1. Last time I tried them they just booted up 1 of 10 times, but I have no laser tweak...

I only have one box, Platinum Mini DvD-R Printable, burnt them all with ImgBurn at 4x and all of them work. (SD-Media-Launcher + GCOS method). No laser tweak or anything else.

Just checked mine, they were CMC MAG. AF1. As I said, didn't have any problems at all with them.

http://cgi.ebay.de/10-Platinum-DVD-R-mi ... 5ad7af5e63 bought them on ebay (Germany)
