You can try using GCoS which is the easiest option before readjusting the POT. All my cubes can read 4 brands of DVD-R without issue. Sometimes the game won't load in Swiss so I use GCoS and see if that works. It's old but has been an easy solution at times. It will spin up and then down, spin back up and if it spins back down (using GCoS) then it's usually the POT. If you get a lengthy black screen and then it loads, you need to adjust the POT just a tad more. Cause it will likely freeze during gameplay/cutscenes but you won't know when. Make sure your disc doesn't have any dark spots on the write side as it would be a bad disc. Try SD loading the iso.

i'll have to try GCos. my discs are good, the ISO wont play at all i keep getting "File is Fragmented" will attempt but it gets to the games loading screen thats is nothing more.

jlo138, GCoS and Swiss use the same code now for patching the drive so should have equal compatibility (the one in Swiss/libOGC seemed to be rubbish).

GCos actually read my full size discs. now MK Deadly Alliance plays, Crash Bandicoot, and Need for Speed Carbon.

Need for Speed hot Pursuit Doesn't play still, i keep getting the 2 redlines " an Error occurred " at the begining i also get this and NFS Carbon after trying to play a quick race.

yet neither of these title play on SD.

POT?
Stands for Potentiometer. Which is a tiny screw underneath the drive board that in my case had to turn to the left about 1/16"-1/8". Being adjusted helps it read cheaper media (burned discs). Done improperly, will no longer read anything until done right. Generally recommended using a meter reader to test the screw resistance in ohms?...if I got that correctly. You can do it blind as I do but only in tiny increments as stated above. If you don't know then do some research on yt and see if it's for you.

Read it with a multimeter to know what's working for you. If it's a Black/Indigo DOL-001 it's likely at around 500 from stock so you might have a lot of room to improve it down to around 200 or so which is what DOL-101's shipped at.

If it's a DOL-101 I'd consider cleaning the lens with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip as well as you've probably put the ohms close to 0. Might also want to consider looking into buying a replacement laser soon ;)

GC can read dvd-rw, set the ohms to near 0 and use a XenoGC.
