GameCube HDMI Compatibility

Post by Murder Dog » Sun Mar 22, 2020 10:34 pm

I’m not sure how active this forum actually is but I’d like to ask for personal experience from everyone who has an internal HDMI mod or external HDMI adapters.

After discovering an issue with sound for myself, I began to test my HDMI mod (Pluto board) on a bunch of my TVs and friends TVs and discovered this thing has a ton of compatibility issues. Whether it’s an issue with display or sound this really seems to work 50% of the time which is very disappointing. I can’t find anything discussing this through google or other forums so I felt like it’s just me. I assume the external HDMI adapters would give the same result since almost all of them run off Gc video.

Have any of you ever bought an adapter or completed the mod and found it just doesn’t work with your tv? I’m curious

Is there any sort of fix that could make the signal more compatible such as a converter or anything? This is interesting

Let me know, thank you!

I have a GC Plug, and none of the displays that I tested it with showed problems with video nor sound (I have the 2.4c FW though).

What happens is very strange, unless it's a specific problem to your installation (ie: bad soldering…), even unappropriate TV/display settings must not lead to so much incompatibilities, as long as you use standard video settings from the console (480p is more likely to work on every set you will encounter).

i have an eon gchd mkii (came with custom firmware 2.4b installed) and a pluto ii-x board (came with firmware 2.4d installed), both are currently updated to 3.0e

after configuring them to enhanced dvi mode to enable sound, i never had any issues with any of them.

Well GCVideo devices use enhanced-DVI mode, which doesn't work on all displays, there is an option to disable it through the device itself, but you do lose audio over HDMI and you will need to use the Multi-AV port to get your audio.
